In my early teens I found a bunch of straight razors, stones, and a strop at a garage sale and used them for the better part of 15 years. I learned how to use them by lathering up a balloon with shaving cream and shaving it. Once you can do it without popping the balloon you will be able to shave yourself without getting cut. Today I use a safety razor that uses disposable blades for my face but I'll occasionally break out the straight razors to shave a woman's legs.

Seventy-nine years old. Shave every two or three days. Love these things. They hold a great edge for about ten shaves.

I just use a trimmer to knock down the beard every few days, I will shave about once a week for meeting or something important.
The wife does my hair with a #3 or #4 attachment, and then shaves the back of my neck with a Havalon knife, she is pretty good with it.
She was told by my barber that practicing on a balloon might help, but it did not have the same resistance as skin. With no practice, she has never cut me.

I had a barber who used a straight razor and I loved to treat myself to a shave a few times a year. It was a very nice treat

My dad shaved with a hollow ground straight razor and soapy water. He was too frugal to buy the Gillette disposable blades. Straight razor is what I learned with. I shave most every morning. I like the shave of a straight razor better. I prefer to shave with a disposable double blade Bic because I don’t nick my adam’s apple.

I remember the blood I shed using Gillette blue blades and can only imagine the damage I would inflict with a straight razor.

DE Safety Razor when I do shave my neck. Usually just use clippers to trim my neck, neckline, and edge up my cheeks. Haven't had a clean shaven face in over 10 years

Was talking to my neighbor’s kid this morning. I think he’s 17. He said he shaved this morning, and I asked where there were whiskers. He said he had some on his upper lip, but only two on his chin. He pointed out where they had been. I really like that kid, but he’s so ‘new’ that I think he still has cosmoline on him. Going into the Air Force in September. Pretty sure he’s still a virgin. There’s a lot of life in front of him.

I don't like putting sharp objects near my throat early in the morning!

Pushed boots through boot camp in San Diego. I always got a few kids with fuzz and no whiskers. Had to clean them up on the grinder before inspection. Their eyes would get big as saucers when we singed that fuzz with a Bic lighter.

Me either. I'm up at 4-4:30 for work, and here lately I probly shouldn't be messing with a straight razor at that time.

The woman who cuts my hair is a hot mess kind of woman, that if a guy is in a relationship with her, should probably keep about 20 grand cash in the safe just for the inevitable please bond me out phone call. She stood there with a straight razor a couple of months ago and asked me if I wanted a shave. My “You’re in danger” senses were going off like fireworks roflmao

I still have my grandfather’s shaving kit. Might bust it out one day and try it out.

Do the world a favor and take that kid out and get him laid before he ships out.

Funny you should mention that. He came over this morning to help me with that old table I’m refinishing. For payment, I promised him all the peanut butter and jelly sandwiches he could eat. The boy loves PB&J. Anyway, I asked him if he’d ever had a real talk with his Dad about sex. He had not. Geez Louise! So I gave him the basics on what women like and don’t like (as if I really know). I probably should have brought you in as a paid consultant, paid in beer. I got plenty beer. What I don’t have is a hooker on speed dial.

I used to work with a guy that had been in Vietnam 67-68, We talked about lots of stuff working Nites. We got to talking about shaving with straight razors once.

He said that they had a barber that was Vietnamese civilian when he was stationed there. He did a heck of a job shaving them with a straight razor.

Said they would make all the civilian help leave in the afternoon and get ready for the night when there was almost always a nighttime attack from the VC.

He said one night they killed a few VC and one of them was that barber. Said he didn't know how many times that guy had shaved him with a straight razor.

He said that was the last time he got a barber shave while he was there.
