I have been eating Mrs. Baird's Bread since before I can remember. We took tours of the bakery in the 1970s off of Koenig Lane in Austin.

Their bread is now hard. Not just the crust, but the inside. It is odd.

What made me notice it was my mom brought up a loaf of HEB brand and it is super soft. Same thing at Rudy's BBQ. Very soft.

I know Mrs Baird's was bought out by the Bimbo brands.

I guess they use more sawdust now.

I used to frequent their retail store when I lived in Benbrook. .25 cent apple pies…mmmmm.

I had to go check, my loaf of Mrs Bairds is perfect.

They had one on Alta Mere too. We'd load up for cheap.

I eat wheat bread unless it with BBQ. I bet its not an everywhere all the time issue.

I remember in college a company had a contract on all the expired stuff, Mixed it in cattle feed

Martins Old Fashioned Butter Bread. Anything by Martins is great.

Good potato bread too. But when we're in Texas, we gettin' some Mrs. Baird's. Used to have the store nearby when I was a kid... lord the pies I consumed.

Homemade einkorn sourdough for me. I bake 1-2 loaves every weekend.

We toured the ButterKrust bakery in Corpus every year from 2nd-5th grade. That fresh bread, dripping with butter was one of the best things I’ve ever eaten. Heaven.

I grew up on Mrs Baird’s but my wife grew up with Sun Beam. It’s much softer and I like it better.

I don’t know how many apple pies I consumed, but let’s just say it was a significant number.

Used to be that if you lived in an major city, fresh bread was delivered to the grocery stores every day and the day-old bread was taken to a bakery "Thrift Store" where it was sold for about 1/3 the price. I was always gelous of this, because I lived in a small town that only got bread delivery three days a week.

Now, in DFW, we get bread that has "Best By" dates two weeks out. It is every freaking brand.

And yes, something changed recently with Mrs Bairds. WE have change to Wonder Bread, but it is still nowhere close to what it used to be.

Bread used to turn green in a few days. I have kept loaves of bread for weeks on end in these modern times. It ain’t right.

Mrs. Bairds was a Texas staple, it is a Texas thing.

All store bought sliced bread is full of preservatives and mold inhibitors. If I want bread I make beer bread in a cast iron skillet.

Fond nostril memories of driving by Mrs. Baird's bread factory on Central Exp/Hwy.75 in Dallas. The smell would make you hungry even if you had just eaten..

Mmmmm ... soft white "balloon bread" made such a great sammich with Skippy peanut butter, all loaded with sugar and transfats.
I must have eaten thousands of them, and with a glass of Nestle's Qwik if possible.

Love fresh beer bread, especially with smoked deer sausage/sharp cheddar/jalapenos in the mix.
