I met in the 1970’s. I was out of the USAF working as a programmer and going to College. He had just bought into GM and was staffing up. He offered me a pretty good job but I declined. I told him my biggest goal was to get my degree that I had messed around with for 4 years prior to my military jaunt. I needed to finish the educational process. He told me that I certainly needed an education. I finished college. About 10 years later I ran into him again. He remembered me and asked how college had gone. I told him I had gotten the BBA and MBA. He congratulated me.
The rest of the story: The guys that had gone with him in that start up had gotten god salaries and as a bonus had EDS stock. I would have been a millionaire before I turned 30. Yep, I got an education.
Without a sense of urgency, nothing ever happens.

Thank you all for sharing your stories! I learned a great deal about him. Seems like a man that would have been good to know.

My company had partnered with Perot Systems so I spent quite a bit of time in the Plano office. We eventually acquired them. I met him a couple of times and he was just an outstanding man. He ate lunch in the office cafeteria every day. If you sat at his table, he'd be more than happy to have lunch with you and talk. The office I was in there was actually right above where he parked. I'd watch him walk out and get into his Grand Marquis and drive away often. Everytime, a few seconds after he had pulled away from his parking spot, 4 guys in suits would hustle out a side door and get into a black suburban and follow him. I never knew if Mr. Perot knew he had a security detail or not. The museum was awesome. Lots of great artifacts from around the world and stories about the man himself. All of his security on site was ex-military, most ex-special forces. They were serious folks. One of the guys I worked with there was the nephew of one of the members of the Iran operation. He said when he got back from Iran, his mortgage was paid off and both of his kids had huge college funds established. Perot told them if they ever needed anything else, anything at all, to call him. This was one of my favorite stories about him: Perot Story, Rick Perry

My mom worked with him at EDS in the 70's and 80's, nothing but good things to say about him. He hired Ex Military to work security and ran a tight ship. He knew the value of happy employees and ran things right. He was an upstanding American and patriot!

Damned onions... We need more men like him, but they just don't make 'em like him anymore.

I read "On the Wings of Eagles" and a lot of other stuff on him. To call him a true American Patriot isn't enough. I spent a lot of time with someone that worked on his presidential campaign. At one dinner, Karl Rove was also there. I asked him if he would go with me so that I could have a conversation with Karl. He wouldn't be in the same close space with Rove. I asked why. Suffice to say, Ross Perot loved his family more than he did his country and this person was very loyal to Perot. Politics are very dirty and ruthless and Perot was above it.
An unethical shot is one you take, that you know you shouldn't.

I know people that were very very close to him. I am talking about so close that there were multiple times when we were in a vehicle going somewhere that Mr. Perot would call them on their cell phone to get opinions about this or that. Never heard any of them say a bad word about him. Heard about plenty of great things he did for others that never made headlines because he didnt want it that way. Chances are one of those people I am talking about is the one that gave you the tour.
