What’s the legalities on transporting hogs nowadays? There were a couple buyers semi local once upon a time but no more.

Good question. We loaded 2 today and found out our local buyer was in hospital from an accident and had to haul them elsewhere. I think as long as there going to slaughter and not across stateline your ok but might call game warden to find out for sure.

Obviously, trappers have to transport to processors. So transport would not appear to be the issue...unless you crossed a state line, as noted above. It is what you are doing with the hogs after transport that seems to matter here in Texas.

I was just curious as to how much red tape there was. Since they seem to be considered more of a nuisance or pest, it seems that if we had something to do with them, more people might be inclined to trap or shoot them.

I saw a 30' gooseneck trailer loaded with wild hogs headed south on US 83 yesterday afternoon. I guess that they were going to Devine for slaughter.

Are buyers paying enough to make it worth the trouble? Been years since I looked into it, but when I last checked you could barely make your fuel costs back driving to the closest processor to our ranch.

used to have a friend that trapped off several ranches and had a large holding pen at his house to release until he got enough to take to market. This has been a few years back but he was getting 30 to 50 cents per pound live on the hoof. The larger ones brought more since they would have larger cuts of meat.

I thought you had to have some kind of special license or permit to transport them live though?
