We're headed to Rockport in a few weeks. I'm pretty ignorant when it comes to saltwater fishing in general, but I have a little experience with trout and redfish. I've never tried gigging for flounder at night, but I always thought it sounded like fun.
I know the season is closed for a bit in Nov-Dec, but can one gig for flounder any time of year? Or is it only a viable option during certain times? If anyone with experience has advice to throw my way, I'd be very appreciative.
Thanks in advance!

yes, go to tackle town and invest in gigging LED light and gig
only hard part is south wind makes Rockport fulton shore line a little rough. North wind works better

They are out there, and you can gig them anytime minus the Fall run when it's shut down. Lots of flounder are being gigged right now, just have to work around the wind/tides/weather. Not sure if I'll be in town in a few weeks when you're here, but feel free to holler at me if you need anything or have any questions. I love floundering, and yes it's fun.
Water is chilly, so bring some waders if you're going on foot. If you wanna get serious about it, you might be able to book an open trip on a floundering boat vs stomping. You cover a hell of a lot more ground on a boat and you don't have to get wet or fight the mud. Plus on a boat you will also have a better chance of gigging other species of fish such as Black Drum & Sheepshead, in addition to your Flounder..

Good info! Thanks y'all! We split a rental with my brother's family and it has a dock, so we'll be bringing the Mako skiff. I have an LED light bar that I'm going to try and fix to the bow of the boat. Regardless, we're in for a good time. Now to get to work on my custom gig.....
