Yep. A direct result of years of liberal democrat anti police BS.

That's about 28.1 officers per Parish. That's quite a lot.

Not just speaking about Louisiana, since most states have the same problem of getting and keeping good officers. It seems to me that there’s little incentive to become a police officer. So much downside to the job, and not much upside. It’s an awful shame that liberals want to punish officers for doing their job - or trying to do their job. The pendulum seems to have swung to where even the cop haters are starting to realize they’ve done a bad thing to shrink or eliminate law enforcement. That might be the good news, that the pendulum has swung our way a bit, but I’m thinking that folks that would have considered law enforcement as a career have probably decided it isn’t worth it. Just the short time I spent in the Marine MP unit let me feel the hate.

That's about 28.1 officers per Parish. That's quite a lot. I did not see the 28 officers per parish stat. There is a lot that goes into staffing. If you had 28 per parish. You will need 4-5 admin and ranking officers. You will need 1-2 training officers, with amount of required training. You will need a couple sworn officer to work in the jail. You always have a couple injured or pregnant. Add a couple to be detectives. There is usually a drug task force, add 1 for that. 28 is now 14. Take 14 to work street divided by 3 shifts. 4-5 per watch, minus days off. You may have 2-3 working per shift, if you’re lucky. Some parishes are 1500 sq miles

I assumed 1 sheriff's office per parish with 64 parishes. I didn't want to get into the weeds. Naturally, some offices will be larger than others, +/- employees.

I can remember going a year without being able to use any discretionary time due to staffing shortages. I imagine they are all operating under those same orders right now.

Kind of funny, I have a friend that is in Louisiana for the winter and he says there are cops behind every bush and sign waiting to pull people over, he actually just told me he has never seen so many cops.

I live in a notorious speed trap in Louisiana. He is not seeing parish deputies. He is seeing lots of town/city cops that are basically road pirates trying to get money from unknowing drivers. Most parishes have only a handful of deputies. One local sheriff announced on the news outlets for rural residents to buy guns and carry them for protection because of the staffing issue. Maybe only 1 or 2 deputies working an entire parish at night. Lots of parishes are large in land area and also have only just a few places to cross major waterways. Not a good situation for public safety. Just my 2 cents. Big Hutch

Woodworth Louisiana will give you a ticket, so when the sign says 30 MPH, do 29. Years ago I got a ticket there. The sign was behind a bush. After that fun experience, I went on to Pineville, Louisiana and stopped to get a hunting license. I mentioned to someone in line that I had just got a ticket and wasn’t happy. Several folks in the place said “Woodworth…you were in Woodworth weren’t you”. Well, yep.
And my hometown of Waterproof, Louisiana has become a speed trap, so be alert. Over the years, all the taxpayers moved away, leaving behind a demographic without jobs or businesses. The town is sliding into non-existence, like so many others, and needs money any way they can get it.
Calvert, TX was a speed trap, but I don’t they can afford a police department now. And drive slow in Lott. My neighbor’s lead footed wife is single handedly supporting their tax base.
