I’m looking at buying a 6mm rifle. I thought maybe I better check on ammunition availability for this caliber. I don’t think I have seen any for sale lately. Do you think I can find any?

I haven’t seen any. My guess it will only be online and expensive if you can find it. I would suggest a 243 Win instead. Ammo is everywhere.

That is showing 6mm Creedmoor in the results so be careful. And 6 ARC as well, but most of the results are 6Rem, especially as you scroll down. Mostly looks to be Hornady or Remington, which is what Midway has available https://www.midwayusa.com/6mm-remington/br?cid=7959

I have a 243 and your are right. I see 243 at most retailers is usually available. Maybe I should pass on this rifle.

Scottfromdall I see what you mean on the search. I’m old and way behind on the modern calibers. I think there must be 30 or 40 new calibers I’ve never heard of.

I have also purchased some from Chad at Dallasreloads.com I believe they were around $42 a box for 95gr Federal.

Why buy a rifle that shoots the same bullets as your .243? Depending on what else you may have and what it’s for a 6 Creedmoor gives you more bullet choices on the heavy end.

P102 good point. My 243 is an older mint condition Sako and I rarely shoot. The only reason I am interested in buying this 6mm Remington is because it is exactly like one I had in early 1970s. I sold that one many years ago a would like to have another like it. It’s well used and I know I would consider it a shooter.

Sometimes a choice such as this one just doesn't have to make sense. "Making sense" is a very subjective thing. It makes absolutely no sense to shoot a BPCR when you can have something in 6.5 Crudmoor, right? Wrong. You choose stuff based on its appeal to you, not some forum, or a magazine article, the the opinion of guy next to you at the gun counter or a roomful of strangers.
WGAF what someone else has to say about a cartridge? There's quite a chasm between real world experience and opinion. Opinions have their uses but they're pretty darned limited.

Geeez, you are starting to sound like Judd. To the OP, if it's sentimental, buy it. If for function, don't as there are better choices.

Those last two post are good advice. River Rider you pegged that. Just like me buying that 264 mag from you when I already had 2 but the pre 64 model 70 really hooked me. I love that 70.

How's it shooting for you? Did you need to tweak that load? ______________________________ But yeah...personally, I see no need or use for a .300 BO at one end or a 7mm STW at the other. Other guys do. I see no good reason to try to change their minds to think like I do---unless they ask for it.

It shoots great and I like the load. I did not change anything. I won’t shoot it a lot due to what it is but pleased to have it.

Does the 6mm Rem. you're considering buying happen to be a Remington 600?
An unethical shot is one you take, that you know you shouldn't.

No it is a Remington 742. Most of my rifles are bolt action. The only semi autos I have are ARs. I just want it as I had one like it in the early 1970s.

If I can't find the ammo at the LGS I order it from SG Ammo out of Stillwater OK. They show 6 mm Remington in stock.
Good folks to deal with, quick service.
