Reps. Greg Casar (D-Texas) and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) have introduced legislation that would connect Texas’s self-contained grid with the rest of the nation, three years after extreme winter weather knocked out the grid and killed hundreds of Texans.

Casar and Ocasio-Cortez announced the legislation Wednesday, the third anniversary of the winter storm. The Connect the Grid Act would place the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) under the purview of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC). It would also require the Energy Department and FERC to conduct a study on the benefits of connection with Mexico.

Thoughts?

My thoughts are that if democrats introduced it, it's bad for us.

Yep, a couple of months ago ERCOT announced at least 2 tie-ins to the grid (southeast and west) and will do so without federal oversight. Democrats never do what's good for Texas.

I don’t sit around and fret over anything anymore. Maybe coyotes. It’s still a truthful statement though.

My thoughts are, I don’t want to be on the national grid, but Texas and ERCOT need to figure things out, make necessary improvements, etc or else it will eventually happen (and probably should if they can’t get their act together)

I figure if anyone in Washington DC, regardless of party affiliation, proposes something for Texas, it's probably bad for us. Coming from AOC, it just guarantees that it's bad for us.

You have to wonder what kind of kickback is in it for AOC. Otherwise, why would she give a flip about the Texas grid? I wish she would just go crawl back in her hole.

I think we have fared well considering we have had some of the hottest summers in history in recent years. Combined with outrageous growth.

I saw this yesterday

That’s interesting and good to hear. I’ve been hoping Texas would build a few new plants for the added power we need. I see that this plant can run on Hydrogen, though it’s designed for Natural Gas. I think that means they’ll run on NG, but could use hydrogen if absolutely necessary. That logic probably helps with getting approval for construction. What I don’t know is where they’ll get the hydrogen. I don’t know what processes would produce the amount of hydrogen necessary, on site, at a reasonable price, and I’m a guy that was the process engineer on a hydrogen plant years ago.

Making Texas beholden to the federal bureaucracies is the only way she can push her Green New Deal BS. Texas' independence is a massive speedbump for her initiatives. The plan is incomplete without Texas. In the eyes of that plan, we have ample land, it is cheap, and our laws governing private property rights are incredibly landowner friendly.

I cannot tell you how many feasibility analyses I have run in the last 12 months for entities from the Northeast looking at 'cheap' 'empty' 'wasteland' here in Texas for their federally subsidized carbon-credited virtue signaling solar and wind farms that are paid for with our tax dollars. 100% she is getting benefits on these deals.

I guess that they simply are not brite enough to realize that there are limits to federal power and that.this is out of their reach.
