that's F'd up. Happy nobody was hurt, hopefully this guy finds employment doing something other than carrying a firearm.

Wouldn't want to be around him when someone was making popcorn.

I'm sympathetic to what he has gone through.....but he needs to get help and pick a different profession.

The person he 'thought' was shooting at him had already been searched, was in handcuffs and in the back of the cruiser.

I feel for him. Before I got medicated, I was watching for gunman everywhere, in restaurants, st home. I was constantly planning what to do when gunman came at me. It sucks

I'm sorry, if you are that scared of your surroundings, you need a different job. I'm shocked this guy passed the background investigation. I can even buy believing you heard a gunshot, rolling on the ground and pulling your gun, but shooting where there is no visual threat, and no other sounds like gunshots?

The man's background was Sterling, his psyche was/is scarred. Can happen to the best of us. He needs counseling and not ridicule. My grandfather told me it took him 30 years to calm down after fighting the Japanese. I had trauma in my teens and was on a hair trigger until my late 20s.

That means nothing. The suspect is still considered armed until you have personally searched him. Same goes for the next officer and next officer.

There is another video from another cop, it shows the other cop (female) running to the crazy cop to help him yelling "are you ok?" while the crazy cop shoots same direction as the other cop. My son just walked into my office and showed me all this. Wow, nut job with a badge...

Good policy....but speaks to a need for thoroughness IMO. At what point did someone do the job correctly and we can say the person in custody is NOT armed. A pat down is one thing.....a 'search' should be a fairly easy thing to do when looking for something as large as a handgun.

And 'cuffed' (presumably behind his back)? I understand some folks have successfully stepped through cuffs (especially if limber or daisy chained) but what are the odds he did that AND had a hidden, suppressed weapon on him. Sorry.....but that's just a bridge too far.

I'm not ridiculing anyone, but he doesn't need to be carrying a badge and gun for a living, it is why we have background investigations and why some officers just don't make it past field training, some don't make it past the academy. Sorry, I hurt your feelings.

I always enjoyed this cop doing the pit maneuver and then going DoH on the launch!

Yeah, exactly. Being a cop is not for anyone.

I don't really have feelings to hurt. Don't disagree that the man needs to find another line of work. On paper the man is a stellar candidate for a job in law enforcement unfortunately he has a some skeletons to shake off. He is lucky no one got hurt.

I worked with about half a dozen westpoint guys, 1 girl.
None were good street cops, but were good at other things. Were obsessed with moving up and getting off the street.

I know a few but don't work with them. If I had to guess I'd say that they would be a great administrator for a large and somewhat complex organization.

Steet cops need to be the kind of people that "run towards gun fire", not sure how you find those type people, it is not something you can simulate. When the real bullets start flying, that is a whole different ball game. Maybe we can learn from this, as part of cop training, drops some acorns on their car when they are not expecting it??? Or something like that.
