Starting do research on these for my campervan build project. What are your thoughts on this technology? Best brands? Brands to avoid? Worth the cost or a waste of money?

All comments and suggestions/recommendations greatly appreciated….

Those are the ones that I have been looking into. Have heard/read mixed reviews mostly from web searches and videos…. Either the best thing since sliced bread or a complete waste of money… I greatly trust and respect the vast majority of folks here which is why I posted the question. The van will be our vacation/retirement primary travel vehicle. Small towns, back roads….not so much off-road middle of nowhere but remote areas that often have little or no signal.

They work well when a signal exists. They can’t create a signal but they can enhance a signal that already exists. Had 1/2 bar to no bars using ATT hunting south of Sonora years ago on top of the highest hill. My Wilson Electronics ( now WeBoost) gave me a full bar that I could make a call with. Probably work a little better now than they did 25 years ago.

I think a lot of negative reviews likely come from unrealistic expectations. As said above, they cannot create a signal where there isn't one. My set up: the receiving antenna is mounted to the utility pole, piped down into my quonset hut metal shop via coax, into the booster, then piped to the interior broadcast antenna mounted to the interior wall. This allows me to get 4-5 bars inside my aluminum travel trailer. Without the booster, I normally have to get close to the doors of the shop to get any kind of signal with decent data bandwidth. With the booster, I have no issues streaming youtube inside the trailer. I have the multi-room version. For off-grid stuff, Bobo is correct... nothing will beat Starlink/wifi.

I have had Wilson/we boost in multiple trucks for over a decade and it works great. I got a new truck last fall and had to take it to work for a week before I had time to install the booster and my phone didn’t work worth a crap. Couldn’t make calls, texts sometimes went through, mobile hotspot didn’t work, etc. I experienced this everyday for a week straight. When I got home the first thing I did was install the booster and two weeks later I went back to same exact location and my phone worked perfectly.

Ended up ordering the “WeBoost Drive Reach Overland” before our last trip. It’s a game changer!!!! Drove backroads across NW Arkansas, southern Missouri and Kentucky, across eastern Tennessee and western N. Carolina. Spent a couple days around Charleston S. Carolina and a day in Savannah before heading back up to the southern Tennessee border back to Arkansas. Only lost signal a couple of time in deep river valleys in remote areas. Previously, we would have limited or no signal in these areas. We use the 360 app so I can navigate for my bride when she’s off on a trip and I’m at work. It tracks phone movement when it has a signal. Shows a black line between signals if no signal is available. This is from a trip a couple years ago. Black lines show loss of signal… This is from the trip earlier this month…. I’m ordering a second external antenna for the car and made a mounting bracket for the expedition so we can move the WeBoost between them. I’ll order another one to be permanently installed in our campervan when we build it out. Very pleased with the performance and great deal for the price. Just wanted to share what I got and how it performed with y’all.

Weboost, you'll see the pear-burner antennas on many trucks that work the west/south Texas oilfields. StarLink is pricey for the version that will work while you are driving.

That’s why I went with the WeBoost. If I was working from the road I would strongly consider StarLink but just vacation travel can’t justify the costs. Once I retire and are spending more time on the road I’ll reevaluate. For now WeBoost is like a dream

Lease member put one up on my OTA antenna pole. When I get close to it my phone shows 5 bars but it is a faux signal. Not really 5 bars.
