If you retire at age 62 and take early social security, your child if under age of 18 will receive half of your full retirement amount

What happens if you have more than one minor child? Is the benefit still 50% per child?

I don't know about more than one. Your wife will also get the same amount until the child turns 16. At 16 the wife loses hers and the childs amount goes up. This helped me retire at 62.

I turn 62 this year. Told the wife we need to have a rugrat so we can cash in on this. She’s not on board. roflmao

No way in hell I’d be on board with that either….I’ll be 62 in three years and am counting the days….

My understanding is that it stops at the sooner of SS recipient hitting full retirement age, 66/67 or Kid turning 18

I'm 63. 'Love my grandchildren and they are better behaved than a lot of kids. Still, I have the energy to keep them for about 4 hours, if there's more than one, and then I'm looking for Momma to get 'em. sleep

The key is picking a hot, young surrogate to carry your seed spawn Dave! That will surely get her on board, maybe even suggest no invitro, lol....

There's a family maximum of benefits payable for a given wage earner. Don't remember off the top of my head, but it's something like 150% of the wage earner's benefit. For example, a divorced spouse of the worker might draw 75% and the worker's child might draw another 75%

Not correct. My kids drew on mine and I didn't start drawing until full retirement age of 66 1/2. They got the benefit until they were 18 AND continued until out of high school. I did not put a pencil to the % of my amount. I was surprised and didn't know until a SS person told me it was available and signed the kids up.

It doesn't stop at 18, if they are in High school you can file a certification of enrollment to keep it.going.
