Read the first three paragraphs and then scrolled down to see that it is to long of a read for me.
From what I gathered, hell of a little squaw and would have been neat to hear the story from her mouth.

the story I read was a little different than the article above. If I remember correctly, it said she was picking berries in thick cover,
and shot the bear at something like 5 ft.
I remember my grandpa killing hogs in the pen with a 22 point blank range, they dropped like a stone.

your mileage may vary ,,, smile

I've trapped and killed hundreds of pigs in box traps, and killed every one of them (except for a couple) with a 22 HP from a 6" revolver. Brain shots within a few feet and it's night night. No need for anything bigger in that scenario.

When I trap them, I use a 22 lever gun on them. Of course, it’s a 1’ shot. Back when I had a really big circle type trap, I used my 357 revolver. It was interesting to me that the cast lead bullets killed better than the 125 gr JHPs did.

Look at the pic's of the skull. You can see were she put the .22 on the bears temple and pour ed 7 more shots into his brain pan.
