Just saw on TV news. Total solar eclipse coming to North Texas 2 months from today

I live in a town of 15,000 that is in the center of it. We're expecting to have around 75,000 people in town for the event. It will be a circus of epic proportions.

It is going to be a traffic nightmare in the Hill Country and other areas in the path of the eclipse. Try finding a hotel/RV park/State Park/campground vacancy anywhere down there.

I asked the owner of the Llano Best Western about it when we were there in August. He said the earliest you can make a reservation is either 6 months or a year (I can't remember which), He said the calls started the day you could begin and he was booked up quickly.

I read that Marble Falls is expecting 100,000 people. Crazy numbers but I wouldn't doubt it.

Granite Shoals or Kingsland one considered using some open city property as an RV park during this time. The article said they could park 500 RVs. Again, an incredible number but given the hype for this event quite possibly.

It's going right over our place at the Frio, but we will be in the Keys. Maybe the kids can enjoy it there.

I am laughing at the insane VRBO/Airbnb rental rates here around the lake during the eclipse.

Doesn't appeal to me to look up in the sky to see an eclipse

Be funny if it rains in area that day.

We got to see the entire thing on the last one in West Texas, several months back. I’ve been wanting to experience that my entire life. Glad I finally got to. Now that I’ve seen one, I wouldn’t put up with any crowds to see another. Luckily, I was on location for the last one.

Kerrville expecting a circus as well - most places long since sold out. Businesses and the City now selling parking spaces at soccer and baseball fields for $75 a vehicle. No chairs/umbrellas allowed. I will be staying home and avoiding the madness that weekend.

We're going to the ranch in Junction to view it. Hope to get there early and leave late to miss any traffic there might be.

Estimates I've seen for us is 200K+. It's going to be a nightmare.

I doubled the rates on my VRBO that week and it was snapped up pretty quickly. Guess I should have tripled them? What the heck is the appeal here for people to travel across the country to see it? confused2

The towns around here are expecting this giant influx of people and I'm just not seeing it happen.

Both Junction and Menard severely over estimated attendance at the last, lesser one. I feel for the LEOs and the waste of time attending meetings. I think the Chambers of Commerce are making much ado about nothing.

Had one in 2017.
Roads were a nightmare after.
We'll be down for it though, good time to maybe shoot a pig and get some firewood.
Our son came up from Texas for the 2017 one.

We are parked in Fredericksburg so will be right in the epicenter. Will make sure we are plenty well stocked on food & drink beforehand so we don't have to get out the whole long weekend.

I've taken the day off from work.

To be determined

My Brother (and Sister for that matter) both live on Lake Travis (Austin) so we will be going there to see it.

Daughter and some friends of hers from Commiefornia will be flying in.

I'm sure the entire area will be swamped with folks wanting to experience it. Not all that excited about it myself....but then I'm old.

Not just the hill country. The track is from SW to NE. Tyler, Sulpher Springs, etc are in the path and expecting 4 minutes of darkness.

The biggest waste of my time due to overestimating was the meetings about the homeless and Covid. I sat through all that and then told the idiots with the health department that the homeless drink out of muddy puddles and eat spoiled food from dumpsters. They could eat a bowl of Hantavirus with a side of anthrax and not even get an upset stomach. They had all kinds of shelters and medical crap ready for them and none of them got sick.

A lot of hotels along the eclipse path were sold out a year ago. I do not think that I would go out of my way too much to see an eclipse, but if it is close I most certainly will watch it.

I worked in a Houston welding shop back around 93 or 94 and we had one then. Turns out a welding mask is a great way to see one. Have no interest in going to a bunch of trouble to see one again. Some people really get off on it, though.
