My neighbor is having real problems with mice chewing hoses on his Kyoti tractor. It’s pretty new, and this is costing him money. Lucky for me, the mice have not been a problem on the Kubota tractor or the RV. And they never have been a problem on the Kubota RTV (of course they’d have to chew through a decade of dirt and grease on that thing).

Any of you had mice damage? We use a peppermint spray and hope for the best, but so far, so good.

How about using mothballs? Anybody do that?

I bunch up some Bounce sheets and wire them under the hood and other enclosed spaces. Works well for several months.

at home, I have cats, no mice problems. at the lease, I've tried moth balls, dryer sheets, Irish Spring soap cut up into chunks, etc. The marble size green bait seems to work the best.

I feed the local cats behind my shop where my tractor stays all the time. It stays under my RV shed since I got rid of the camper. I have never had a problem with mice of any kind since Our cat stays inside during the day and inside the shop at night all the time and the local free range cats show up for their nightly feeding. Cheap insurance. Keeping the grass mowed short all the time around the shop helps keeping the mice away also.

I had mice get into my camper while it was at our lease years ago. Glue traps helped but they showed back up. I put up 5 of the plug-in ultrasonic pests repeller's and that helped a whole lot. I kept the glue traps down and they got the occasional mouse that did get in.

I’ve had good luck with ultrasonic repellants as well but also leave a few glue traps out. From what I’ve read the ultrasonics will generally keep them away but not drive them out if established.

I will send you the name of the stuff that I use when I get home, it is a solid bait with a hole in the middle of it. You use a wire to hold it in place, they can not chew thru the wire. I hang it around the battery.

I think the name of the stuff is Kaput. Your local feed store should have it. It works well.

I've had my travel trailer stored for a total of five years in my shop while I've been overseas without any appreciable rodent damage. The only thing I've done is keep the slab (and NOT inside the trailer) littered with blocks of rat/mice poison. I buy it by the bucket from any hardware store or even from the Amazonians, and haven't noticed that any brand is necessarily better than another. It's no surprise that snake encounters have pretty much been non-existent too.

I'll emphasize that I do NOT recommend putting baits inside whatever you're trying to protect. Obviously, the baits have some attracting effect, and I don't need to entice a mouse to come inside the trailer, tractor, or truck, and I definitely don't want that sucker dying inside either.

oh yeah, I leave out the glue traps as well. The green marble sized green poison is called Tomcat. Prior to the fire on our east TX lease, my old travel trailer was a haven for mice / rats. I put out numerous old school traps, Tomcat bait, large black plastic traps, plus moth balls, Irish Spring chunks, etc. I caught several rats the size of a squirrel ... guess the fire thinned them out

I ordered a sack of sticky traps too. I have a bad history with them though. I had a mouse in my truck, so I put a sticky trap on the floor and forgot about it. Took the wife shopping with plans for a nice restaurant, so she had on her new fancy jeans. But, I had the truck washed first, and the car wash guy put the sticky trap on the seat. The wife sat on it. Those things really are sticky. Ruined the jeans. I was in the doghouse for a while.

You are one smooth operator. (My luck, there would have been a decayed mouse on the sticky trap.)

I knew an old guy that used moth balls placed in panty hose, I didn't trust it but he swore by it in his farm equipment. I'm for the permanent solution, had a car years ago near totaled from rats getting the wires, cheap college car but hit the wallet the same. I'd rather kill the problem then run it off for a few days.

Somehow, I'm not sure that would have worked out well.

Some companies use hoses that are made of yummy (to rodents) natural products. When going green goes wrong. My Kubota tractor, Polaris Ranger and Toyota Tundra are apparently not made out of the yummy stuff. Zero issues and I couldn't be any more in the woods.

I have wondered if maybe the hose materials in the Kubota vs the Kyoti were of different materials. I never had a problem with mice in my prior Kubota tractor, which I think I had for 18 years or the Kubota 900 RTV, which is, at a guess, 15 years old or more.

Soybean oil is a common ingredient some companies use to make the hoses. Bad idea.

Also used in wiring insulation.

Yep. I saw a brand new Subaru totaled from rodents eating the wires. Soybean oil was the cause of it.
