I know this is deep in the woods, but will a shoulder/neck bushing for a 280AI work for a 7-08AI? Of course the manufacturer says absolutely not, but if you look at the drawings I can’t imagine why not. I understand their liability in saying otherwise.
This is for a SAC modular die. It’s a do all die for whatever cartridge family it is, meaning I can load .243 or 358 or 7-08AI simply by changing the bushing.
This may be the deciding factor to finally jump to the AI. I already have copious components to make it happen.
[/color] does anyone have both the SA and LA SAC die so you can confirm the OD of the bushings are the same?[color:#FF9900]

I'm showing both shoulders are .454" wide. The AI has the same shoulder angle, and both are 7mm. So, it should work.
When I formed my 300 Win Mag down to 7mm/300 WM, I used a standard 7 Rem Mag die. I set the 7 Mag die out long, and sized the brass down to 7mm and prepped them from there. The 7 Mag and 300 WM have the exact same shoulder angle and dimensions. Kind of the same thing you are doing.

I would think the lengths would create more problems for you than the neck/shoulder but I don't have one of those dies to know for certain.

Neck O.D. for 7mm cartridges is only going to vary based on brass neck wall thickness.
I move bushings around all the time.
Measure a loaded round case mouth O.D. and subtract .002", that's the bushing I need. The same bushing has been used on 7mm-08, 7mm-08 A.I. .280 A.I. 7mm Rem Mag and 28 Nosler.
More importantly .280 A.I. is long action, 7mm-08 A.I. is short action. How you gonna FL size a long action brass with a short action die?

Think he only wants to move the bushing from one die to next.

Think he only wants to move the bushing from one die to next. Correct. I have the Winchester die that’s currently sizing my 7-08. I’m wanting to put a 280 AI blushing in it for 7-08 AI. These bushings do the neck and shoulder.

The die is essentially a body die. The bushing does the shoulder and neck.

I have the same die set with bushing for the 6.5 PRC and am getting ready to play with the 25/PRC so that was my plan to just get a couple of bushings and see what works. Don’t see why it shouldn’t work fine.
