Wonderful little film. Looks like a great place for BBQ. Is it still there?

Thanks for sharing. True Texas style place. The “hole in the wall” places like this one are drying up unfortunately. I suspect my grand kids and their kids will never get to experience what a great thing they (people like Vencil) brought to local towns, and visitors alike.

My uncle and I used to eat there back in the 1960s and early 70s.

Grew up in Georgetown but dont remember going there. My Dad owned the cotton gin in Georgetown and I know he spent time in Taylor so I would be surprised if he didn’t go in there some.
I remember going with Dad to the vet in Taylor. Also, road with my cousin from our gin to the compress is Taylor with a load of cotton. I cant believe I remember the term “compress” and not sure I used it correctly. Weird how you remember stuff. On that same trip to Taylor my cousin pointed out one of those big silos between Mankins Crossing and Taylor on 29 and said a guy died in there. When I ask how, he said he went crazy looking for a corner to piss in.
Good ole days, good ole days…….

Man you and I lived through the same life growing up for sure - and there is not one single thing I would change about it - we were very blessed to get to grow up where we did and the time that we did

Taylor was always better known for its Taylor Meat Market. Elgin had the Lion's Share of BBQ places. Old places long gone... like Biggers BBQ.

I imagine the small town charm of both places is slowly eroding (if not gone). Not anything like I remember in the 60's and 70's anyway.

Places like the Coupland Tavern were an off the beaten path place to go. I'm sure its something quite different these days since 'Austin' found them.

Saw an obituary that said he passed in 2019. Sorry I never stopped there. Always made a beeline for Mueller's BBQ if I was having lunch in or around Taylor. Would have liked to have tried that smoked sausage.

I thought it was interesting they pull off the brisket at 180 degrees, and let it finish cooking in a cooler. You think the temperature increases in the cooler, like to at least over 190? I always pull mine off 190/200 +.

You are correct. I am 53 and ate at all of those places when I was a kid. Taylor Meat Market's red hot dogs were a family favorite. I have found red hot dogs at other markets, but none taste as good.

I recall going there a few times with my dad back in the 60s-70s. It was always good. Mueller was the more famous one along with Mikeska's (Rudy) closer to old down town Taylor.

you are correct - I grew up in Taylor - Mueller is still off the charts good IMO - Mikeskas was good too but they closed down. Taylor has Samsung currently putting in the largest manufacturing buildings anywhere so that town is getting ready to explode

brought back an old memory ... I still remember back in '87 or '88 when the stock market crashed so hard in Oct. (black Monday). My BIL, my dad, FIL and I were in Durango CO on an elk/MD hunt thru an outfitter. The outfitter leased out an old motel/cabin complex on the west side of Durango during the off season to use as his base camp for us and the other hunters. Rudy Mikeska and his son(s?) were also there hunting out of the same outfitter. We were several days into our hunt when the stock market cratered, Rudy and his son(s?) were devastated and cut their hunt off short and headed home the next morning to tend to business.
