A good friends son, will be hunting next season with his Grandfathers M1 carbine, the kid is a good shot, averaging 1-1.5 in groups with mill ball ammo, at 50-75 yds. I would like to load some hunting rds for him so am looking for some loads/powder combos that work with 110gr SP bullets. I have taken a few hogs, 6 whitetails, and a few coyotes with an M1 carbine, so I know it will do the job. I was using factory ammo at the time, and that stuff is now outrageously priced when you can find it. I used to use H110 with FMJ, but never reloaded any SP rds. Any recommendations as to powder/loads and where to actually find some SP bullets?

https://www.midwayusa.com/product/1010618795?pid=584609Hodgdon reloading has loads. I load them just like the 110 gr FMJ. My standard load used to be 14.5 gr W296/H110 ( same powder). I recently started using Accurate 11FS which is supposed to be the same formulation with a flash suppressant. My load ended up being .2 grain higher for my old universal carbine with the Accurate 11FS. I have used the Speer 110 gr JHP in the past but have not seen them around for years. My last load with them was the same 14.5gr W296 but I mostly used them in a Ruger Blackhawk. Not sure how suitable they would be for deer but they certainly expand at .30 carbine velocities.

Midway has 110 grain sp’s available. If I was looking at my loading bench Lil’GUN or IMR 4227 would get used.
Notmay use it but my dad brother and I all started out with an old m1 car I e my grandpa had. Keep ‘em close and put it where it needs to go and it works.

I have loaded 14.8 gr IMR 4227 with a 110 gr soft point. It shoots well, but I have never taken any game with it.
296 will give you more velocity, but some sources say to use magnum primers with it.

I shot my first deer with one, unfortunately we had and unknown at the time loose side mount scope mount and I don’t hit him well. He did make it though. My dad and brother shot many with it before using the rem 110 grain soft point factory loads. Can’t expect a lot from it but it but it is low recoil and the small frame worked well.

I killed a few deer with a Rockola M1 Carbine and gave it a few years ago to My oldest Nephew that got his first and best buck to date with it when he was 9 and on his first deer hunt.
Loads I used then I do not even see the Winchester 110gr hp bullets but they were loaded with H110 about mid range of the listed load data and Small rifle primers. With it I kept the shots inside 75 yards though my Aunt that hunted with one for years killed deer out to about 150 with it which I think is a stretch for it.
lf the saying "Liar, Liar your pants on fire" were true Mainstream news might be fun to watch

Hornady used to have I think a 90gr XTP made just for the carbine and it was my go to bullet back when M1 carbines were not collectors pieces. I killed all kinds of critters with it and it was my go to gun form home defense.

I killed all kinds of critters with it and it was my go to gun form home defense. I still have some of those but they are a varmint bullet, I don't think they are suitable for deer. I loaded them up for a Blackhawk revolver and they ran about 1950 fps out of a 7 1/2 inch barrel. Its a flame thrower with W296/H110. Dang loud too. My last load I loaded down with Accurate #7 to about 1500 fps if I recall. I don't think I have fired the remaining loads since I did the workup 5-6 years ago. Its also the reason I never frequent the bullet trap in Plano. They restricted me to the rifle range with that gun because the .30 carbine was a "rifle round", never mind it was a lighter bullet travelling about the same speed as a 357 mag so it was less power. Their range, their rules, I took my business elsewhere.

I went to the Ft.Worth Gun show on Saturday hoping to find some components. Hah! none to be had for the Carbine except for some outrageously overpriced primers. I only saw a couple of pounds of shotgun powder, other than that, there was none to buy As a matter of fact, there were very little to no reloading stuff at all at the show. This is very unusual, as I have gone to these shows for many years, and always been able to find what I needed. And as mentioned above, Carbines now carry collectors prices, I was blown away by the stupidly high prices on average Carbines, some not even Mil surplus guns were also priced ridiculously high. I wont be buying any at those outrageous numbers!.

I use 15.0 gr. of W296 or H110 and a 110 gr. Sierra SP. Velocity is right at 2000 fps, very accurate, and works! I killed my biggest buck ever with this load in about 45 years of hunting.
