My boys age 11 and 15 drew deer/nilgai hunt at Lower Rio Grande NWR - La Sal Del Rey 11/24/23-11/26/23. Already booked an airbnb about 15 miles away. Working on getting a sled/cart for hauling critter parts out, as is foot traffic only. 15 year old and I will probably be stalking and setting 11 year old up with mom in a ground blind setup. Any info/tips greatly appreciated. Thanks
Greg

From everything I have read over the years, I believe tripods are the best way to hunt them because of how tall the grass can be out there.

Not sure how different the time of year matters, but my son hunted last year on New Years. You don't need a tripod, I think that would be a pain to move about. Take in a couple folding chairs and set them in some shade overlooking travel lanes, or slowly walk and glass. Most important is to get there a few days early and scout. The further they are comfortable shooting the better as there can be some long shot opportunities.
