There is a company called Strong Water, they make bitters. My favorite is Golden Bitters. I make my own simple syrup, brown sugar, water, cinnamon. I do 3/4 oz SS, bitters, and half a teaspoon of the syrup the cherries are in, rye and stir for a really long time in a glass with ice, then strain over ice in a glass, cherry (anything but maraschino) and orange peel. I have a smoking kit and will smoke them as well.

I’ve given up on making my own. I just buy the pre mixed Oaf from
Treaty Oak. It’s about the closest one that I like. I don’t like them sweet, prefer a dry spicy OF. Mine at home always seem too sweet.

P.S. Woodford Rye is the only good Woodford for OF unless you like a smoked OF then any Woodford will suffice.

Recipe I use to make a classic old fashioned cocktail:

Ingredients
• 1 sugar cube
• 3 dashes Angostura bitters
• 1 teaspoon water
• 2 ounces bourbon
• Garnish: orange twist

1. Muddle the sugar. Add sugar cube to a lowball glass, top with the water and bitters, and use a muddler (or the end of a wooden spoon) to muddle and stir the mixture until the sugar is nearly dissolved.
2. Mix. Add the bourbon and a large ice cube. Stir vigorously for 10 seconds or until the liquid is chilled.
3. Garnish. Add a maraschino cherry or two, if desired. Gently twist the orange peel* directly over the glass, in order to express its oil, then drop the orange peel into the glass.
4. Serve. Serve immediately and enjoy!

That's a decent recipe, I would make it with rye, and use the peel from an organic orange. Organic oranges aren't waxed so would get a better citrus oil spritz from the peel.

I'm just about the same. I tried Proof syrup, but quickly found out that's too expensive of a way to drink an OF.

Several of us (Looking at you, TEXASLEFTY) tried this one night on a rec from the local whiskey merchant. It was pretty good, a little different take. Suggestion: pour it, add one cube, and wait 5-10 minutes before enjoying.

I need to go see Texaslefty.
