For me, wife and two college age kids? We have worn out Destin, Branson, Hot Springs and Flagstaff recently so something different. With wife working for airline, we have the ability to fly standby but wouldn't be opposed to driving 4-6 hours somewhere since we'd rent a car flying. Some areas we are considering are New Orleans, Durango, CO and Salt Lake City. Wouldn't mind the good and bad feedback on those as well as other suggested locations worth visiting. The trip being short needs some things to see, do and enjoy but nothing overly strenuous. Thanks...

I used to live in New Orleans, though I wouldn’t live there now. There’s plenty to do, but mostly it’s adult stuff. Some good museums though, if the kids like that. On Sundays we used to go to the French Market on Decatur street. Lots of antique shops on Royal Street. You could take a carriage ride. Lots of artists working and selling at Jackson Square, and the Cabildo is right there. Don’t stay out too late and avoid dark deserted streets.
We like Durango. Took the train ride, which was nice. Ate in Silverton and roamed the shops. We never vacationed at SLC, though we have at Park City.

Ruidoso, similar to Hot Springs but with a better climate.

The train ride is one that really intrigues me, the historical significance of it. Besides that, what are the main things to do/see in Durango for 1-2 days? I like Durango as a choice because we can fly right to it.

Probably others have more info about what to do in Durango. Other than the train ride, there’s a lot of shopping and wandering. We found some good food. We’d have done more in the town, but were in our Sprinter Van, and parking for that thing is hard to find in Durango. We did a jeep tour, and enjoyed that, though it was a mighty bumpy ride, but that’s the reason ya need a jeep. The wife and I will probably go back to Durango and that area. Maybe do the train ride in Chama. I think it would be a good place to visit for 2 or 3 days. Train ride one day. Jeep ride next day. Note: if you are taking a wife and daughters on the jeep ride, get em to pee before you go. And on the train ride, go first class. Worth it.

Too many homeless and crack heads in Durango, CO. Santa Fe, NM is pretty nice.
Wife and I are going for a long weekend to La Jolla, CA in two weeks to play golf.
I am still looking for the perfect apron, one with reinforced knee areas would be perfect.

Wife and I are going for a long weekend to La Jolla, CA in two weeks to play golf. Just got back from Santa Fe a few weeks back - the downtown square area had lots of homeless folks just FYI

Enough to interest us on a 2-3 day jaunt?

https://www.nps.gov/meve/index.htmIf you go to Durango and you’ve never been, Mesa Verde is a neat place.
Never been to a camping world. I prefer Dick's to be honest.

a lot would depend on what type of things you like to see and do???
Could always rent a VRBO or Hotel on Lake LBJ, rent a boat for a day or so for skiing/wakeboarding/surfing/tubing, numerous things to do around the area (golf, hiking, shopping, restaurants, etc.).
others of note, Durango, Albuquerque, Flagstaff, San Diego, Monterey, Branson, Whitefish, Seattle (island hopping), Portland OR (cloverleaf day trips from there), Portland Maine (cloverleaf)

If Durango, I’d be prepared to go an hour or two north or east. Rent a jeep in Ouray and drive over the pass to Telluride. Check out a mine in silverton, ride the train to and from Durango. The town of Durango is good for an afternoon to shop or a meal.
Fly to Denver and drive an hour to Estes Park. Plenty of places to rent and you could explore the park for a couple days.
New Orleans is good to see once or twice in life, but it’s a different trip with kids.

Wife and I are going for a long weekend to La Jolla, CA in two weeks to play golf. Take your wallet and do not, I repeat do not, look at a real estate guide. Don't miss George's at the Cove.
