welcome aboard and thank you for your service!

once you get up around the Austin area, you might find something ... do you by chance do archery? might put in for Granger Lake, Lake Georgetown if so. Also there are draw hunts on the Balcones Canyon Land preserve west of Liberty Hill ... just not sure how hard it is to get drawn.

I appreciate that. I do archery hunt kinda. I use a crossbow for now since I need surgery on both shoulders. The draw hunts are hard. I've put in for hunts from Austin all the way up to the N DFW area for the past 3 years for me and my boy and have struck out every year.

a guy that used to work for me (retired now) used to do various draw hunts around the state, when not drawn, he would go to the site anyway to get on stand-by and frequently got a spot. that was a few years ago though

I appreciate that sir not here to look for any hand outs just looking for advice mostly. Praying we will be in a better scenario this next season.

There are State public hunting lands. Take a look at them. You have to buy a license and fairly low cost permits.

Welcome to THF. welcome

Good public land in east Texas, several WMAs and public forests out that way. I used to hunt Bannister a lot, always saw a lot of deer there and have taken a few.

Welcome to the forum and thank you for your service sir . The Sam Houston National Forest would be a good place for you to start , it is the largest public land the closest to you and there have been some good deer taken from there . Don't however listen to all of the hype about how crowded and dangerous that it is , most of the people that say these things have never hunted public lands . Just follow the safety guidelines(laws and rules) set forth by the TP&W department and the U S Forest Service . Also check into Corps land for hunting , there is a good bit of that available as well .
