It's taken me a few years to catch the weather right, but I finally got to light off all the crappy, rat-infested blinds that I spent the first couple years dragging and hauling to the dump, 99% of it by myself. I think it was 9 of 'em. Previous owner's lease hunters were slobs, and, they made me look like a good carpenter (no easy task). Of course we asked for all blinds to be removed at the purchase, but they cut and ran.

Good for you, sir. I wish I could catch my county not under a burn ban... no blinds, but I've got a lot of dead trees, brush, and sand spurs to burn.

I bet you could have sold some of those rat infested stands to some tight wads on here and they would have hauled them off ... roflmao

Careful driving there now. Nails and screws will be looking for a home.

We lost a few blinds in grass fires. Going by after the amount of nails and screw eek2 never drive there. Although I think if you wait a few years they rust away or maybe it’s just our dirt, stuff seems to rust rapidly.

Pretty jealous, our burn ban is off but between rains and winds, I just haven't caught the right time to light some brush/trash piles.

Kry, not sure when you go out next, but your county lifted the ban a little before Christmas. I FINALLY got a chance to burn the last time out after New Year’s Day.

Thank you, sir. I admittedly don't check too hard, and usually go by the posted signs. I'll be checking the website flintknapper posted or with the county now.

Thanks. I looked at the county line sign at noon and they'd flipped the ban sign up (closed), so I was in the clear.

'Prepped two brush piles by the house, scraped a ring with the box blade, etcetera, but didn't like how the wind picked up a bit and the moisture stopped, so didn't light. Maybe this weekend.

The blinds have been in the dump for a while. No nail or screw problems. Mesquite thorns are another story.

We were burning some old fallen barns and other decrepit buildings around the home place.
After the fire is out for a few days, we would take the ole handy-dandy Harbor Freight rolling magnetic pickup tool thru the ashes.
Out of 3 piles, we picked up a half a 5 gallon bucket of screws, nails, hinges, etc. that I won't have to remove from tires later.

Cheers,

Before you dragged them to the burn pile, were any of them nasty from owls nesting in them?

No. One particularly dangerous tower blind (the top welded rung had fallen off) I even propped open the windows the first year and painted "Owls only" in fluorescent paint on the outside. No takers. Owls must be illiterate in these parts.

Owls must have standards and will only trash a perfectly good deer blind!

Brings back memories of burning brush piles with my opie. He always made sure to have his old 410 so we could shoot rats, snakes etc. that brought a smile

I lit one one night and had it going pretty good. After about an hour, I hear this shrieking/cussing from about 50 yards off. One very po'd coon was all kinds of mad that I was burning his house.
