Getting a .22 mag. This is not an investment kind of a purchase, not saving for a nice gun, or etc. It is purely an “it’s payday and i need a .22 mag” kind of a deal.

So all the cheep .22 mags cones down to a bolt action Ruger American, a Savage 93, a Rossi RS22, or a Rossi gallery gun. The first two are bolt guns, of the two i would prefer the Savage because wood stock unless ya’ll know something I don’t know about the ruger. The Rossi is an auto but is it a jamomatic? Of the three or four i care least about the Rossi but if it is a good gun I will try it anyway, for killing coyotes and raccoons.

I *might* be willing to double my cost on a Henry pump action .22, I am kind of on the fence about it because for that I could almost buy 2 cheep ones. This gun will be passed around and used roughly. No way around it.

I am a fan off all three brands. My 22WMR rifle is a 41 year old Marlin in new condition so I might be a little biased.

I have a buddy with a Savage 93R17V ("hardwood" stock, bull barrel <varmint or V in the model> .17HMR) and it is VERY accurate. Same as an 93R in 22WMR besides the barrel.

The Ruger gets good reviews and all my Rugers have been well made. I don't have first hand experience with the American.

I am actually a Rossi fan too but you have to know what you're looking for when buying one. Much like Marlin, Rossi has changed hands a few times and have put out some real duds. I would not hesitate to buy a new R92 lever action center fire from them but I am not buying a semi-auto 22WMR for sure. Even Ruger and Marlin had trouble the the '80's and '90's making them work.

Last comment ... Do not be impressed with the wood stock on the Savage. It's pretty cheap and is similar to the standard Ruger 10/22 and the Remlin 60 "hardwood" stocks from the past with painted on and opaque blah color. Stocky's, Boyds, and others make very nice replacement wood stocks for the Ruger for around $200. Also, the Ruger can be had with a wood stock too. They are distributor exclusives and are pricey.

If you want an auto-loader, my only choice would be the Savage B22 -F.

Pass the gravy.

I like the Ruger's as well but also have the Savage in the 17hmr and is a mean little dude. But my 22 mag's are Marlin bolt gun and Winchester 9422 mag.

I have the savage plastic stock bull barrel. Its accurate and the only gripe is the clip not latching good sometimes. They didnt make the ruger when i bought it. To do it all again i would buy the ruger. Main reason is flush magazine and more capacity. My 22lr ruger is my rainy day , plinking go to 22. Kimer 82 stays home on rainy days. The tube fed marlins are good too if you can find one.

I have the Savage 93 with the synthetic stock. It is light as a feather and much more accurate than I am. I shoot open sights and the rifle points naturally for me. I have never had a problem with the magazine but I did learn to periodically check that the magazine is secured in place.

I thought I wanted the Ruger but it did not point naturally to me.

Ruger. Just make sure it has a threaded barrel.

That’s the exact one I would get if I didn’t already have a tricked out 77/22 Mag.

I've got the Ruger American and it handles well and shoots tight groups with many different kinds of ammo.

I sure do appreciate ya’ll. I would have got the savage. But fiddly mag that might fall out is a deal breaker. My stepbrother had a savage growing up and it had no magazine, welp now i know why.

I can’t wait to get this ruger. I am gonna site it in with cci game points and that will be all i use unless i run out. Not likely to happen, i tend to stock pile the rimfire cartridges.

I might cherry pick a hundred yard group and post it to look cool. Maybe not, hehe.

I've got the same gun except blued and 17 HMR, it's great. The better mag on the Ruger was a big seller for me too, I was between that and a Savage also.

There ya have it. Payday solution. Slapped a vortex crossfire 2-7 rimfire on there and it’s not for now, it’s for good. Duplex reticle please and thank you 😊

I sight mine in dead on at 100 yards. The bottom starts dropping out at about 125.
