Hey Stompy, are you getting the early rains needed for your dove fields. I know There’s a process and sequence of events required and the level of care/labor you put into it. Looking forward to the 2024 season!

Working on them now. After today I'll have all the fields disced and dragged, except for one.
The one remaining field I'll get to as soon as it dries up enough.

So far the rains amounts have been good. Need the rain in March,April and May for good sunflowers.

Bunch of birds here too Jimbo, have been for sometime. One day I counted over 100 and one deer feeder.

Sounds like a good hatch in the near future!

Stompy if you were planting a new field of native sunflowers would you disc, drag, broadcast, then drag again? What would your process be for a new field?

Yes, 1/2" to 3/4" about every week or 10 days it seems. Got all my fields done in January except the big 117 across the road. Finally finished it Friday just before this last round. Fields were a little too damp, but I had no choice, had to get it done.

I have a ton of sunflowers coming up already. I wonder if this first hatch will freeze out and then more come up? Or maybe they can survive a few freezes?

If it's a light freeze, they should be fine. Mine usually don't start coming up till mid-March.
