Planning a Spring break trip in April. I’ve never been to either place but we’re taking our son’s family for this get away. Includes two small grandsons, one and three years old. Probably rent an Air BnB.
Tell me about these towns, which you prefer and what to do….
Thanks, gents.

Not sure what drove you to choose these two towns, but Kerrville is a small city, and Wimberley is a tiny berg, in deep canyons, that used to be a retreat for Austinites, with the Blanco River (we're talkin' back into the 1920's) and has absorbed Austin's sprawl up the "hollers." Kerrville has the Guadalupe, but not much floating it in town. Congrats on the itty-bitty boys! PM me if you need anything.

Never been to Kerrville, but I took my wife to Wimberley for our anniversary last year. We had a great long weekend there, but I don’t know how much there is for young kids. We stayed at a B&B, hiked one day, walked around the small downtown area and went into shops, art galleries, etc and ate and drank very well. Had a great time, but we didn’t have any children with us.
I just turned it on . I was looking bird dogs in the butt this morning.

Need some suggestions. I haven’t spent much time in the Hill country. Somewhere with some amenities but not too crowded.

No such place exists in the Hill Country anymore.

The best part of going to Kerrville is not going to Fredericksburg (unless you like the crowds) . If you drive down 16 from i20 it's a beautiful drive through llanno and San saba , especially in the spring. My favorite part about going out that way is the drive to get there. Wish I could help ya on ammenties. If you have time, drive out to enchanted rock while your out that way

Like mentioned above Llano or I really like Vanderpool and Utopia.
Plenty of AirBnb around there.

We have been parked in Fredericksburg since October 1 and will be here until the end of April. We've enjoyed it very much including the surrounding area. Crowds aren't too bad. Lots of places to see. Check out that cave with all the bats. https://tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/old-tunnelAlso the Pacific War Museum is awesome in Fredericksburg.
To be determined

If I was going to Wimberly that is how I would go to avoid Austin. I have been to Longhorn caverns and Natural Bridge. Longhorn is a little more primitive while Natural Bridge has more features.

Wimberley is nice (my parents have a large B&B out there on 9 acres), but not much in the way of kids attractions per se, but my girls always love to go to Papa's just to be outside. Lots of hiking, and my girls enjoyed the Emily Ann theater/park complex. Super quiet town, that closes down pretty early.

If the grandkids were older, I’d say go to Jellystone park in Kerrville; but they are too young to play there. Kerrville is a nice area, not sure exactly what you’re looking for though.
Maybe stay a few days there and a few in Wimberly?
If you want a pretty drive, head towards Hunt from Kerrville. The road follows the Guadalupe, pretty area.

They are loving it to death. My favorite is Hondo's grandson bitching about all the development around Luckenbach. His grandfather started that snowball!

Its lost all its allure, WAY too many people. Just not unique anymore. What is sad about the hill country is investors coming in buying ranches and busting them up into small parcels. They have done this to 3 properties near my deer lease in NW Burnet County. One of them, Stargazer, went bankrupt not long after they started to develop it.

Yeah, funny thing about developers and builders - not all of them have that much intellect, just a lot of greed and bravado.
