7mm prc any ideas. I will see if it repeats. Shot was out of the group as well.
The sd and es are with the cold bore shot excluded.

I think cold bore being different is a very real thing. Many on here argue that it’s shooter error.

IN MY OPINION the barrel has moisture in it from general humidity or even condensation from the last time it was shot and possibly put up warm. It’s my intention to run a dry patch through the barrel before shooting one day and try to record any information gained. It’s usually not on my mind though. Obviously all subsequent shots are from a dry barrel.

This is not happening with all my rifles. These 2 are only I have shot over the Garmin.
My 300 win is consistent from first to last shot. I’ve shot it on 2 sessions with 2 different brass. It’s a savage barrel.

The 7mm prc is a Bartlein barrel. After the 1st shot, the gun shoots great.

Load wrong? I’m about 20 shots in from a cleaning with wipeout and accelerator.

Very interested in learning what causes this- haven't a clue. But what about a warm chamber for subsequent rounds? Doesn't the bullet and primer make an air-tight seal? Warm chamber warms the brass and what gas is inside the cartridge. I could see a little air pressure increase inside the cartridge. Just thinking out loud with no experience to base on.

Clean cold bore this is very common.

This is still a new barrel and you're on virgin brass, correct?

Clean for sure but I read it like it was fouled. Maybe I misunderstood.

2nd firing on Peterson brass. The load shot well out to 800 yards. I will monitor and keep everyone posted.

Man this Garmin is a game changer for me.

Something I've observed, and the best terms I can come up with is "old fouling" and "new fouling".

Fouled last week or last month, versus fouled today.

The jury is still out on this.

Old fouling, cold barrel has different dimensions, cold stock reacts different.

I notice the same thing after removing all metal fouling from the bore. The second and all subsequent shots afterwards are considerably faster than the first shot. I'm convinced that laying a little bit of metal down in the bore tightens up the gas seal.

So what happens when you fire that first, cold bore shot through a fouled barrel that hasn't been cleaned? Velocity should be ramped up a little, no?

After the fouler fps goes up a tad. Crud comes out and bore dia is a tad larger.

Gee, that's just what my chrony says. Your mileage may vary.
You guys like to bad mouth others. But 90% of the hunters on this board don't get 20fps ES on their loads anyway, so the original question is kinda moot to begin with. You say a AR will dimple the primer and high primer can cause slam fires BUT don't explain or give any reason why. Just demand YOU are correct. Kinda like that Doctorate guy from NASA that said my idea wouldn't work until I showed him the working example. Never saw him again.

And there is your issue, all wrapped up one one little comment.

Your chronograph says NO such thing. Your tendency is to observe something, like a velocity, and then jump to wildassed conclusions and convince yourself that you've uncovered indisputable fact. We have seen this repeatedly.

Step away from the keyboard and take hold of that mouse and use it more.

Duffas I think a part of your problem is poor communication skills. Some of your post I never understand. Truncated. That’s a good word for your [censored].

Chronographs have come a long ways since I bought my Magneto Speed. Mine doesn’t even speak.

I have been wanting a chronograph for years. Been reloading since I was 14 (50+ years ago). Have always been able to get my rifles to shoot well as I have a few folks whom I listen to with regards to reloading. Only used a Lab once. That was with the Horizon folks and they were getting speeds for scopes turrets.
Had my golf shop order me one of the Xeros since no one had one or knew when they might be in. It arrived a month later. Couldn't believe how small it was nor how easy it was to set up with my phone. Got to the range and went with it. Started showing velocities that I had only SWAGged . Then it started talking with my phone. Got more information that was extremely useful. I do believe the Sneaky hit it on the head. They have come a long way.

Go buy a box or 2 of commercial ammo, run it over your chrony and look at the extreme spread. Surprise? Or watch Paul Harrel's (?) attempt to show longer barrel has higher fps. Several brands of good 223 stuff and he calls out chrony numbers - 50 fps min ES! Yup, he proved difference was about 200 fps. Yes, handloaders can trickle loads to reduce but does the average guy do that? I don't, I don't often shoot > 100 yds. Nothing against money shooters, I'm not one and probably most here aren't - but a few here seem to want to dictate real world physics. I shot my new Long Ranger 308W a while back, as much a pencil barrel as anything, pretty fast and still had a good group @ 100. 4 shots 50 yds Amax load, 0.5 MOA. 5 shots @100, ES 1.01 MOA, SD 0.29 MOA. Good enough for hunting. My communication better?

If you know so much about real world physics, you should be able to easily explain how insufficient headspace can cause a slamfire. We're all waiting breathlessly for that pearl of wisdom.

And if the first shot out of a cold barrel is slower because of crud left in the barrel by the previous shot, then why would the next shot not be affected the same way? The previous shot magically does not leave crud in the barrel??

Nope. Not really.

I have no idea who you are, but I have to wonder if this forum is the first you have ever signed up for and actually posted. How many forums have you fled for being called out repeatedly?

What you're going to have to realize is that in a forum this size, there will likely always be someone who knows more about a particular subject than you do about 99% of the time and if you try to fake it you won't get far. You do not have to be the top authority to participate and contribute, and even enjoy the site but constant BS-ing is not going to enhance your experience here. Frame opinions as opinions, and if you want to frame something as fact be damned sure you know what you're talking about or at least ready to defend your position with fact ("sometimes stuff just happens" does not qualify). If you're going to stick your neck and claim something as fact you just have to be prepared to gracefully acknowledge and accept refutation. It happens to all of us.

Most importantly, learn to separate the things you KNOW from the things you believe, no matter how strongly you believe them. And for Pete's sake, learn to recognize that there are matters of opinion and there ARE matters of fact.

Just stop trying to baffle us with BS.
