Not the first time this has happened, but it was another great example of why you need to know where you are going before relying on your smart phone mapping app.

Picked my daughter up from work yesterday in the truck so we could go buy her a tv table stand, she works off of Coit Rd. just south of LBJ/635.
She uses Apple mapping system and off we go. Apple says take 75/Central Exp north to Plano Pkwy, exit then do a u turn at the light heading back south on Central?
I am thinking what?? Anyways it says get on the freeway heading south then exit Campbell Rd and turn left/east?? Then turn right on Greenville Ave. and your destination is on the right 1/4 mile down.

The quickest, shortest, easiest way would have been to get off 3 exits before Plano Pkwy onto Arapaho Rd. turn left on Greenville Ave destination 1/2 mile on left.
Fortunately even in the heavy 5:45 rush hour traffic my daughter and I made the best of it. I razzed her about relying on those online apps, that she needs to find the location first and follow the apps if they seem right.
Personally before I got to a new place I am not familiar with, I google map it, then take a pen & paper and write down the direction I want to go.

My wife likes Waze, do you use these online maps, if so which one?

'Had to pick up some shipped meat from a recent hunt. One guy on the hunt (that's not on here, as far as I know) was gonna meet me there to pick up his portion. I texted him the address, contact info, etc. Now, to be fair, I am retired and I tend to over think whenever I'm going someplace new, looking at the street view and map on the house desktop, etc. I haven't been on the southeast side of San Antonio very much in my life, but I was familiar with the road names. 'Looked simple enough.

I get to the place, no problem, not a single wrong turn. The employee of the place brings out the pallet with all of our meat on it and I begin to open it up, unwrap, etc. The guy that's supposed to meet me texts and says "I'm here." He is retired IT, sold his own IT business recently...and is an Apple phone user. I tell him to look for my truck and trailer. Minutes go by and I call him. He tells me the street he is on and I realize that he is on the EAST side of San Antonio, not the SOUTHEAST side. Then he asks me if I have an apple phone or an android. (I have an android.) I tell him that he is on the wrong side of town, but he doesn't believe me. He is an extremely polite and nice-mannered guy, but, when you get to know him, you realize that he's quite certain that he is always the smartest guy in the room. 4 or 5 different phone calls and half an hour with him repeatedly asking me to look around and tell him what I see and me telling him that he needs to get on loop 410 and come to the correct side of town. I figured out how to "drop a pin" where I was, but that didn't even work. It seemed pretty hopeless, so we decide to meet on the northside of town, at a Costco, on both of our way home. I load up his portion into the trailer and off I go. Meet him at Costco, help load his into his trunk, say goodbye, thank you, thank you, etc.

As I'm driving home, he calls me. He then proceeds to tell me how I can send the longitude and latitude of my location to an Apple phone user. Basically, but ever so politely, implying that it was all my fault. What...a...dik. I won't hunt with him again.

Well…let’s see…YOU (though obviously not very intelligent grin) managed to find the place, get the meat and deliver it to the guy that could not find the place.

He told you about the longitude and latitude to make himself feel a bit less stupid. But he knows who got it right.

It's a tool. Some people will blame the hammer when it busts their thumb.

Many of the maps are wrong or outdated. The FedEx folks here are the worst about following a map and not just looking at the address numbers.

Man all y'all sound like my Dad who refuses to use GPS which is a beating when trying to meet him someplace. Google Maps is pretty much spot on. Not 100% but I've never not gotten to my destination.

I use Google maps every day. Occasionally, it doesn’t always give me the most direct route, but it’s usually very good. It’s especially useful when there is traffic or an accident up ahead requiring a need for an alternate route. You don’t need a pen and paper to write down your directions. You could just look at the preview before taking off to see if it makes sense.

I use Waze and Apple Maps, but not as regularly. Waze is best for road trips telling you where cops are present.

I'll Google it on my laptop before I head out just to get an idea where I'm going. My truck nav has led me astray before.

I use WAZE for around town, Google Maps for intercity travels. I've had a few occasions where I thought I knew better than the GPS mapping program, but I've usually been wrong. The GPS program knew about heavy traffic or construction of which I was unaware. At other times, like when I was traveling between Austin and Houston, Google Maps started telling me to take an exit far outside of Houston. Knowing that the program has more info than I do, I complied. It steered me through a small town for several miles, during which time I could see that IH-10 was solidly backed up and at a standstill! I probably saved between 30 minutes to an hour by following the directions given by Google Maps,.

I tend to have a lot more faith in these programs than I used to .

We were leaving Love Field and wanted to bypass construction so I asked my wife to find the best route on her phone. She had me going through all sorts of back roads and neighborhoods and we were missing turns. I finally stopped and asked her WTH. She busted out laughing and said she still had it set for pedestrian from our trip to Nashville. bang roflmao

Google maps has worked best for me but if I have a chance to pre-scout on a computer I will.
