Put many spit hoods on Juvies going to court. Usually only had to wear it one time and they would start following directions.

Prison may be the best place for him to protect society. But, it’s a damn shame that mental illness causes the loss of a human life. Gotta admit, I wouldn’t want to live around him.
Without a sense of urgency, nothing ever happens.

I liked Reagan....but repealing most of the mental health systems act in 1981 wasn't one of his highlights. Funny how pharma was influencing govt decisions even back then.
Three forces drove the movement of people with severe mental illness from hospitals into the community: the belief that mental hospitals were cruel and inhumane; the hope that new antipsychotic medications offered a cure; and the desire to save money [8]

A huge portion of that came from lawsuits filed by the ACLU starting in the early 1970s and culminating in 1980 or 1981. The government effectively had their power to commit people to indefinite civil commitment stripped away. After that the institutions were useless so funding for something that couldn't be used was cut off. Part of the ACLUs zeal to close the institutions was because they had become cruel and inhumane and abuse was easily documented by anyone who took the time to look for it.

So we turn them loose to shoot up theatres, churches, schools, procreate, and now they don't know if they are a man or woman.....nice.

So we turn them loose to shoot up theatres, churches, schools, procreate, and now they don't know if they are a man or woman.....nice. You can't arrest someone who hasn't committed a crime yet. Until recently violent crime was only about 25% of what it was in 1970 and only made an uptick from the covid lock downs, talk about defunding law enforcement, cowing members of law enforcement by trying to lock them up when they did nothing wrong, and soft on crime activist becoming the DAs in large population centers. The driving factor for crime in the US is poor public policy choices from law makers and their inability to be flexible in responding to laws that cause harm. Passing layer upon layers of laws doesn't solve crime and having 1000s of conflicting or meaningless laws makes all laws look bad.
