I used to fly a lot for business, and got really tired of it. And after retirement we did some traveling to the UK and Europe and had some really difficult trips to and from. It took all the patience I had. Because of that, we haven’t flown for a few years.

But we will, says the wife, fly to Vancouver and catch a small boat cruise to Alaska. That’s later this year.

Back in the 80’s though, I flew to South America a lot in First Class. I think the airline was Avensa. That was great. Help yourself to the caviar and iced Vodka. Times have changed…

I'm thinking #1 may be the largest factor.

I’ve never quite understood that, particularly for those way in the back.

To be determined

I think you're right. I'm just a few short hours away from a very, very, very long airplane ride to Manila, and then back again after a week. I hope I stay free of them.

Probably the $25 fee.

It's getting higher than that now - $75 or more on some airlines.

I think one problem is that our society has taught people not to worry about getting their [censored] kicked for that type of behavior.

A good friend of mine, that's retired LEO says "if people would just use good old fashioned manners, a lot of problems would never happen."

I think there is truth in that.

Absolutely. When the person dishing out the appropriate dose of medicine is punished, poor behavior is bound to flourish.

Of course there is. The problem is that manners are bound by consequences. When the latter is lacking, so will the former.

A lot of people would blame social media for this. I’d say that it has had its impact, but I’ll stick to the old-fashioned idea of a lack of parenting as being the majority of what’s to blame.

Add in that a lot of "real" men on this forum won't even stand up for many things they see people do which they know are not right and it creates a fertile environment for inappropriate behaviour. Beware the seeds you sow.
