Mmm looks great, I used remains of a Christmas ham to make a pot of beans. Been eating them and deer chili over tamales for a week and still looking forward to lunch every day

It's a Mom thing with me. So many of my dishes are fixed exactly the way she taught me as a kid, and remembering makes me smile. Her explanation was that finely grated carrots thicken beans, soups and stews. They add to the flavor and make sweeter. I think she believed the Vitamin A would be good for us too!!

Just glad to see corn bread being made the right way in cast iron! We have a small cast iron skillet that is slick inside from the hundreds of pans of corn bread that have been made in it. We put the skillet with some oil in it in the oven until it is hot and then put the batter in so you get that crunchy crust. I love ham hocks and beans regardless of the aftermath...

Used to eat it all Fall and Winter at my GrandMas. I haven't seen a jar of chow chow on a shelf in 30 years!!! Bonus.
