>>N.B. growth I remember when it was a more "closed society" than Fritztown. Square heads. Hud is sitting pretty.

There is time, and you must take it, to lay your hand on your dog's head as you walk past him lying on the floor or on his settle, time to talk with him, to remember with him, time to please him, time you can't buy back once he's gone" GBE

I graduated from Smithson Valley in ‘83. New Braunfels was a Texas gem back then. I have fond memories of the county fair, Wurstfest, Landa Park, and Stinky Falls (tube chute for you tourists.) Eating at Krause’s and Opa’s sausage was a big time. Tack on Gruene and River Road and you have a Central Texas paradise.
I miss the Crystal Chandelier for sure. If you know, you know.

Is there anywhere in this country that is better today than 25 years ago? We have added 50+ million people since then. Every place I go I hear the same thing, this place is ruined.

If you want a place without growth, you’ve got to where others don’t want to be.

Lived in New Braunfels 2016-2020. Just the amount of growth in that timeframe was astounding. Worked some with New Braunfels Utilities, and they were struggling to keep up with demand. Won’t be long and you won’t know when you leave San Antonio and arrive in Austin. Will be one big metro.

I lived my high school years around Canyon Lake/Fischer in the early 2000's. Where the bucee's stands was a cornfield. Walmart Distribution Center was there, along with the Colman warehouse, but that was it. If you didn't know where Gruene was, it was easy to miss, same as Friehieght store.
To be 100% honest, I never cared for New Braunfels as a town. I would avoid it if at all possible, though I never could figure out exactly why. If I needed something I would go into San Antonio or sometimes San Marcos. The town atmosphere has improved greatly since those days.
For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.
