Changing times.

I just finished a book about early Kimble county, The Reckoning, by Peter R. Rose. A little convoluted with names, dates, etcetera, but reinforces what I've noticed - chiefly that Junction was founded by outlaws and still has some around today. grin

One thing that stood out and I've noticed about other frontier history - plenty of guys in their 50s (and 60s) would marry young women in their 20s (and 30s). I realize many times the first wife died, due to the hard life they all lead, and children needed caring for. It's just with all the other bizarre, twisted, woke BS going on these days, it struck me that this straight, heterosexual union OF TWO people by marriage is frowned upon by our modern society. One son-in-law is 13 years older than our daughter, and he's only 9 years younger than me, which is kinda weird, but they seem to be happy.

I'm happily married to a woman my age, and I have enough performance anxiety without the pressure of a young woman in her prime, but...I always thought it was a good gig if you could "swing it."

How 'bout you? (We already know thoughts from our resident menage a trois, if it exists. bolt )

My wife is 28 years younger then I am and so is our girlfriend. Sitting in the OBs office as I type this having a checkup on our baby to be.

My great grandma married a widower who was 46 when she was 13 and was considered the luckiest woman in the county because the man was well established and respected. He was a Baptist minister and a land owner with about 40 men who worked for him. She had 7 or 9 children and lived to be 108.

I certainly hope your choice works out well for all involved.

So far so good. We are at 25 weeks with no issues of concern. This one is a little girl and her name is going to be Ripley.

Them being in a relationship with a man who is established has benefited both of them. They both have advanced degrees that I paid for and want for nothing. If I ever have time I am going to get a copy of the filings for the case that made gay marriage legal and just change the wording and file against the state of Texas for preventing the 3 of us from getting married.

My wife is 9 years and 11 months younger. I was shooting for 10 + younger but she was and is a cutie and a wonderful gal that is a keeper so I let 10+ slide laugh

Seems like some on here are engaged in more deviant behavior than the older folks in the OP.

It does seem like it was much more common back then and apparently no one thought twice about it. My daughter in law has a sister who is around her age (30's). The sister is married to a guy who is in his 60's. No problems as far as I know.
For me, other than the obvious up side, I don't think that would work for me. I would rather be with someone who is closer to my age that I actually have things in common with.

I remember hearing one about a young german bride who came over to marry an older rancher with a couple of thousand acres just north of Leakey. He was late fifties/early sixties and died soon thereafter. He ahd reasons for his need and she had to live out there forever after.

46 and 13 is a bit extreme but whatever floats your boat. Don't believe that is permissible nowadays in the USA. Believe 14/15 may be about the youngest a person can legally get married with parental consent.

You should've let them marry each other and then you could be the pool boy.

During my genealogical research of my own family, it was common in the 17th and 18th century for a man to not marry, until he was established and could provide for a family. There were a lot of 20+ year gaps between husband and wife.

This was in Arkansas in the 1870s or 1880s. Different times with different standards. If memory serves me correctly she didn't have children until she was older. Her husband was a minister and I am pretty sure that he had high standards and morals. It is quite possible that he did not lay a hand on her for a few years.

I waited 50 years to get married for the first time and I'll be damned if I am going to get divorced to keep the government happy.

I do like how you think though but I am too old to be a boy anymore. Both of them together are still younger than I am by a few years.

Yeah and those older guys in Arkansas guys always looked for young teen girls who were faster than their older brothers.

I’m 46 and the wife is 44.

I have an uncle that is around 25 years older than his current (second) wife.
