A hunting buddy and I were sitting in the bed of my pick-up, glassing a winter wheat field for deer, using binos, and then zooming in with my new 15-45X60 Riton spotter. We didn't see any deer, but we did have about 500 Honkers drop in for a snack. That quickly changed our morning plans from rifles to shotguns. 90 min after sunrise, we had already taken 4 puddle ducks, and we could hear the geese lifting off their roosting pond. At about the same time, 3 coyotes come out of the woods and stand 300 yards away in the field. So much for the geese landing. After scaring them away, the geese decided to land 400+ yards from where we were. Oh well, it's still exciting watching and listening to them. Next time, I will be hauling a 5.56 with me and maybe even my deer rifle!

Cool. You shoot those wigeon coming into the winter wheat field?

Exactly, they were dropping into the pond behind us to get out of the wind. Going to give it another go tomorrow. We'll see if I have it figured out!
