It does not happen often but today was the day. 49 degrees, NE wind about 12 mph, tides slightly below normal, partly sunny. In most duck hunters wishes it should have been a fine day for a duck hunt. Nope it was not. It is becoming a pattern in the area we lease if the water is not above normal and the marsh prairie is not flooded the teal we depend upon for hopeful limits check out. When the tide goes out the teal go with the water. We got into the blind 10 minutes before shooting time and hunted until 8:30. We saw a couple groups of pintail but they went right on by. No ducks for the day. Time to try another lease we have 18 miles up river and see what comes of it.

It was not a wasted morning. On the way out I busted up some nutria, got about 20 for the day. We hit the nutria pretty hard a few days ago and I thought we slowed them down but apparently not. We hunt on.

You throw those nutria in your gumbo?

Same here in SE Tx. when the teal don't show, it makes for a tough day.

We need some weather to push them down out of the central states. Noticed our numbers at the farm are going down as well.

Hunted on the old lease 12/23/23 and the hunting improved. Mixed bag for sure with some divers in the mix. We had water was the difference. Limits will be hard to get but we are shooting some ducks.

Congrats! That's what I told my buddies this season. With no water or saltwater in the marsh just killin ducks will be good. Don't expect a lot of limits.
