Hello Texas Hunting Forum,
I'm writing to review my hunt last week with Lance and Greg of
JGL Hunting. On the forum, I've read horror stories about guides that took deposits but never showed for the hunt, poor communication, unsafe facilities, and lack of game. I'm very happy to report that my family's experience with JGL Hunting was the polar opposite. Our experience was, in a word, fabulous.
Lance communicated with me frequently and clearly well in advance of the trip about expectations, weather, lodging options, and land set up. Whether by email, phone call, or text, Lance let me know even up to the day before what weather conditions to expect and how that might impact hunting. He knew I was trying to put my two sons, daughter-in-law and wife on some game, and he set us in blinds accordingly. He asked great questions about our experience, level of comfort shooting, etc. He made no unrealistic promises about monster bucks but gave me a good estimate of what we might expect based on what they had been seeing on game cams.
When we arrived, he was at the designated meeting place, and he made cordial introductions to all of us. Before he and Greg drove us out to our blinds, he provided an overview of the land and safety rules.
As you will note from the attached photos, the harvest was abundant. Lance gave us the option to pay to have our animals skinned and quartered. We opted to do our own processing, and he and Greg were very helpful setting us up in the shop to hang the animals for cleaning. As I cleaned the animals, they cooked a fantastic breakfast for me and my wife.
We're in College Station, so it was about a 5 hour drive to get there. I'm sure we can find hunts much closer, but after the weekend we had, I'll be reaching out to Lance again next season.

Five out of five stars.
