Had a similar incident some years ago within 10 minutes of my house. Fire and LEOs responded to a car fire on the highway late in the evening. Active scene with fire trucks and cruisers lighting it up. Drunk and high girl blasted through the scene and hit a Barling police officer that was out of his car. They finally got her stopped 5-6 miles down the road. She thought she hit a bird. The officer’s service weapon was recovered from the floorboard of her vehicle. Officer did not make it.

Edit: Just went back and checked the date. Was August 1992, so stupid people are not a new thing.

Similar incident happened in 2001. Girl was high, hit a homeless man and continued driving home. Pulled in her garage with him still lodged in her windshield, ALIVE. Over the course of the next couple of days she would just go in and check on him till he finally died. I believe she got 50 years.

Wasn't she a nurse also? I remember she also said she was having sex in the house with him still alive in the garage.

I met John Creuzot when he was sitting second chair to Mark Troy in a case where a teen killed a hooker in the late 80s. The teens name was Colin Tucker in case you get bored and want to read about the case. He was a rock solid lawyer and a rock solid judge. I trusted and respected the man and still kept voting for him even when he became a Democrat. What happened to him once he became the DA is beyond me. He simply lost his mind. I keep meaning to stop by his house to visit with him and to pick his brain about politics but have never gotten around to it. He has lost his way in my opinion.

Unfortunately or fortunately depending on your perspective there will never be capital punishment for these types of cases and I would like to the sentencing range revamped to allow for the option of giving more time.
