I grew up hunting arrowheads with my Pampa and my Dad. It has always fascinated me. A while back k was gifted quite a few arrowheads and I believe they are from North and South America all over. I need help please in identifying them. I have no idea where or to whom they belonged or how old. I uploaded some a photos of a few of them and I would really appreciate the help in directing me the right way.

There are a couple of books available that make it fairly easy to identify arrowheads.

Not when the origin of the artifact is unknown.

There are so many types and sub-types that having an 'idea' where it was found....can be very important. In this case....we don't know if any of the artifacts are even from the continental U.S.

In some cases, an artifact is so unique and consistent that they are readily recognizable. Other times a 'point' might have been reworked or was never very 'representative' of the style to begin with.

When researching you CAN quickly classify points into group types by noting the base type and notching (if any). Then further narrow them down by identifying other features. This will get you roughly into groups or types. But beyond that.....it is very helpful (indeed essential in many cases) to know where the item was found.

Flint Knapper is right without knowing where they were found no way to know .
In the first picture :
If they were found where I hunt I would call the top 3 that look alike Castroville. 2nd from bottom left side I would say Bulverde.
2nd from bottom right side I would call a Frio.
Like I said if they were from central Texas .

That is a strange looking one, the 5th picture large middle one.

Can you easily tell if a arrowhead is more or less fake; just asking?

I agree on needing to know the area found in. Just went back and read the post again. Will be tough without knowing

Most look like Archaic period artifacts which covers a long span of time. No paleo. A couple that don't look flaked may just be pointy rocks. And in the last picture at least one fantasy point someone probably made goofing around. Hard to say on any of them IMHO without being in hand and provenance.

Just the other day I was labeling the non display sides of my newest arrowheads with location and year. Whoever inherits them should appreciate that. Though it probably just makes them more valuable as a whole and tempt them to sell.

Amazing how some of those look so much like Paiute points made of obsidian that I found in Oregon days.

Anyone ever found any arrowheads or artifacts in montage county or near nocona?

google "A Field Guide to Stone Artifacts of Texas Indians" for info on local arrowheads...

Trouble is.....we don't know where they came from.

I have ideas on 4 or 5 of the artifacts....but it would be predicated on the origin being from Texas or surrounding States.

As OP mentioned North & South, allow over. on that note. Not an expert.
Oldest brother, his son & i have found several, here in MN @ the places we hunt around the lakes.
They look just like the ones in first 4 pic's. 5th pic bottom left looks like skinning stone.
The star type in the 5th pic (farthest right) tis cool, little different than others.

Which (as written) are two completely Continents (with many countries comprising each).

Even IF we are to take the quote to mean *North and South United States* it remains largely unhelpful.

Yes. A couple of full arrowheads and plenty of pieces. They look different. Museum in Nocona has largest arrowhead collection in Texas.
