Headed west for my deer hunt Thursday, will hunt Friday, saturday and sunday morning. Looks like Friday will suk pretty bad with 35 mph winds and 80 degrees. Saturday will start warm, but temps will drop with a cold front BUT, the wind will still be howling. Poor deer will not know what to do bang

Oh well beats sitting on my azz

Can't do any good at home on the couch.

Deer and other animals are outdoors 24/7
and fish are always wet

Yeah, it's supposed to be blowing 20 to 30 in Bracketteville, but that is how life goes.

Sorry if I'm missing something, but don't high winds increase buck movement?

We have a cold front with snow flurries for the weekend, coming in on Friday.
You all usually get something from our fronts. No luck this time?

Browsing the Deer Hunting Section I see 3 Buzz posts near the top. 1. This one Bit#$%ng about the wind. 2. One asking about any luck near Vernon (which is North Texas, Not West Texas by the way). 3. One asking about tracking dogs.

From this I conclude that Buzz is hunting near Vernon, in high winds, and he is planning on wounding a buck which he will blame on the wind. Now I'm not even gonna try and guess which rifle he is using because he dominates the Rifles section post counts with monthly guns he has sold or purchased.

It’s my opinion, from decades of deer hunting, that high winds will not increase any buck sightings. The winds take away their ability to use their sense of smell, which is a big thing to lose. In the high winds, I’d hunt in the woods, not on field edges and open senderos.

The wild card here is a buck’s urge to mate, which throws caution to the wind at times.

If Buzz is hunting in North Texas out near Vernon, high winds is just another day at the office for those deer. It's not East Texas, they'll still move. If they never moved out that way in high winds, they'd almost never move.

High winds out there in Vernon is nothing new, just look at all the wind mills as you drive out there. Last Saturday afternoon through evening we had sustained 35mph winds in Childress, we saw a ton of deer.

I hunt with high winds ....I hunt every chance I get and live with the weather. When the wind is blowing pretty hard is great for me as my blind over looks the area as I am on a hill. I look down and the deer cross and feed the low places ... I will see some bucks with the wind blowing most of the time. However, the deer do not feed for long in the open areas they stay and feed those low areas with heavy brush blocking the wind. The hill I hunt is maybe 8 foot high looking down on my pen to the North with heavy brush, also to the west overlooking a low area with thick brush on both sides, where I feed by hand. However, the deer maybe too nervous to hunt in the open areas with high winds.

Buzz enjoy the sun rises and sun sets and rest usually falls in place.

Nothing else really matters in those moments

Been my experience hunting in windy areas that it usually lays down about the time the sun sets and that's when you see big deer, especially late in the season when the bucks are hitting feeders. I call that last little bit of light deer thirty.

That's when the decent buck I shot this season stepped out of the brush. up
