I've sold several firearms here and always had good experiences with everyone I've dealt with. Never thought about signing anything/getting the government involved or looking at how many "posts" someone has. I grew up right down the road from the Chicken House Flea Market in between Stephenville and Dublin. Every other weekend you could go buy a rifle/shotgun and some chickens/goats and never sign anything lol. Wasn't that long ago either.

Used to stop at that flea market when we had a lease in Commanche. Do you know if it is still operating?

Yes sir, every second and forth weekend of every month. I haven't been in probably 10 years but I have family that still lives down there.

If I ever sell a gun, it’s going to go through an FFL unless they have a CHL. Relying on some rando having a login on a forum is foolish.

Bought, sold and traded firearms with people on this site
for many years. Have my own vetting process which I don’t
expect anyone cares about and I’m not inclined to type out.
I agree the OP did right following his instincts.

My take is we still live in a place that allows the freedom not only
of ownership but the free trade of our property. I’m not a dealer
and I don’t buy or sell for profit so what myself and another person
mutually agree to does not require any added transactions.

If your spidey senses start tingling there is usually a good reason and you should definitely stop what you are doing to reassess the circumstances.

I have been buying and selling stuff for 30 plus years and my gut has never led me wrong. It total I have had 3 bad experiences. Once was when trying to sell a Honda generator and 2 buyers in a row tried to rip me off. One pair of guys wanted to strong arm me over it which I saw coming and another guy tried to pay me with a mixture of real and fake currency. The other one was some teens who were trying to sell a Browning HiPower and they handed it to me with the hammer back on a loaded chamber and the safety off. I told them that they weren't going to get the gun back and told them to follow me to a local PD to explain themselves and to get the gun back when the police handed it back to them.

I remember going to garage sales where the old guys would have their Luger pistols laid out on tables. They weren't always at garage sale prices, but they were there for the taking. Sometimes all you had to do was ask if they had any guns for sale and they would come out with their old rifles, lol.

Yellow flag #1 would have been an ender for me. I do not like selling stuff to strangers, period. I would like to not sell to anyone on THF forum that I do not know well, I know I can’t do that, so that is a reason I do not sell much stuff on here.

You 100% did the right thing. At the end of the day, it's just a gun-if they needed one that badly they have plenty of legal avenues to get a different one.

I think you did fine. That said being a member here means nothing, the past has proved we have some real scum around. Nobody comes on here posting they are a bad person.

Always follow your gut. When in doubt tell them you want to meet at a local FFL to get the paperwork done. Time on a forum doesn't always mean anything. This is my first post on this forum but I have been on others for 20+ years. However if we spoke on the phone you would probably feel comfortable selling to me and if you wanted to go to the FFL I would have no problem with doing the paperwork. .

I have, on 2 occasions, backed out of a gun purchase from an individual. It just didn’t “feel” right..

Then there's the other extreme of requiring an LTC or using an FFL for a FTF. Common sense is in the middle.

Pass the gravy.
