Took my son and two of his friends on a duck hunt this morning and had a real good hunt. Water was above normal and when that happens the teal seem to show up. Lots of green winged today comin at us 10 - 15 - 20 at a time sometimes. Shooting big ducks is fun but when 20 green winged teal are coming straight at you 10 feet off the water doing about 40mph and you start cutting on them and they go straight up crossing with after burners on as they climb is one of the best things you will see duck hunting. Happened many times today getting a few out of each bunch. It never gets old. Surprising, not a blue winged teal in the bunch. 24 ducks on the day.

Those look great. GWT and Woodies my favorite to eat strait up It’s my favorite way to eat them. I try to eat them all like that, and fresh (not frozen). Just not as good like that coming out of the freezer, out of the freezer I’ll cook them different way. With those GWT, the drakes have a lot of fat in the skin, the hens don’t. When flock come buzzing in, I try and pick out the biggest bird, it is normally a big fat juicy one.

That looks real good. After seeing the post of the teal in skillet we were fortunate to have another good hunt Sunday and I cut the breast meat off of the GWT and may give that a try if wife does not want to cook the gumbo for me. We are lucky the ducks are still here and hope they stay a while. We are starting a split rest will do the area good. I hope they don't leave, time will tell. Pic from good hunt 12-3-23.

If you have never eaten duck like that you are missing out. Duck cooked like that, you are getting the real taste of duck, it is awesome and a unique flavor like nothing else. Here some more pix of it cooked like that, this is BWT. See last pic, that layer of fat, bursting with flavor..

Teal is also my preferred duck meat over others. Well Mallard is the kind duck, not really because of taste, but because of size. I says: * Mallard #1, Pintail #2. 5 mallards and pintail kicker is the ultimate limit. * Teal/wood duck tide for #3, although teal is a lot more challenging to shoot and just over all more fun to hunt, plus you can shoot 6 teal. * Widgeon/Gadwal #4 taste wise, but these are fun ducks to shoot and decoy. Many will say they cannot taste the difference between all these ducks, but I can. But I will take a limit of all these ducks. The rest of the ducks I pretty much pass on.
