You. 4K? No way. You don't need a supressor on a .308, and a great scope is like $1,000-$1,500.00 (Leupold VX5 HD).

Hey, it's my dream, ok? I don't NEED a suppressor, but I WANT a suppressor (already have one that does double duty on my 357 and 300blk). I know I can get a great scope for $1000, but I WANT a Nightforce NX8 FFP mil-c reticle. Considering my 22" barreled 788 in .308 does pretty damn well (I think I outshot you at Sr's Hunter's Challenge with it, didn't I), then I'll wait until I can afford the full $4K version. Hell, I couldn't even afford the $2K version right now.

I won the challenge, you were 4th. I had 8 shots on you. I shot my 20" Tikka CTR, Factory Ammo. (9 actually, I had an additional hit on the dot challenge that needed an up close look after all shooting)

I went back and found the pics from that day. I stand corrected...but I smoked you on stage 7. confused2 Anyhow, we agree that a 308 is about perfect for whitetail in TX. For now, I'll stick with what is in the safe as it works. Eventually, I'll upgrade. We need another hunter challenge match. That was a blast.

Didn't we shoot stage 9 first, the Dot Challenge?

I think we did, as a way to check zero before other stages.

Just getting into mine and caught quite off guard. Should have done it long ago. Big difference. Surprisingly so.

You must not have read the entire thread and considered the context. The context of my response is on a 20" Tikka CTR in .308 for hunting. This is a rifle I have hunted with for 8 years and killed a dozen or more great deer, probably couple hundred hogs, more coyotes than I can count and had great range sessions shooting groups less than 1/2, all without a suppressor. If it were "needed", myself and the 6-7 friends of mine that have this rifle would not have had similar success without it.

I know very well how those rifles shoot. I recommend that same rifle to anyone wanting a great factory rifle, at a very reasonable price. And in the event it is a CTR in 6.5 Creedmoor I've told them to do a load development and run the factory barrel until it is shot out, around 2500 rounds. Tikka rifles and barrels are definitely good enough to run them as-is.

Putting a suppressor on the end has nothing to do with how well it will or will not shoot. Especially for hunting, shooting suppressed is a great thing. No hearing protection needed, and you're more sneaky. You get to make multiple shots on whitetail, hogs and coyotes because you are not disturbing the peace. Everyone told me, and now I say the same "once you hunt suppressed it is the only way you will hunt."

But you don't need one, as you implied. Adding 4-6" in overall length to a rifle that performs very well as is negates any perceived advantages, IMO.

"Multiple shots on whitetail" Do what?

I see no disadvantage to a suppressor, in fact i doubt I will ever build another rifle thats exceeds 20/22”. The supp advantages are just to high not to take advantage of them.

OP, the sig cross SA comes in 6.5CM and 308. in LA it comes in 300WM

Personally I’m not a fan of 308. I think their are better SA options and for a little more recoil and little longer action, you can jump up to a 300 WM and have a wider range of bullet and recoil options

this is 6.5 Sig cross group my 10 year old daughter shot. 3 shots Cold barrel

Geez! Don’t get her mad at me. The kid can shoot.

As for suppressors, I doubt I’ll ever get one. The neighbor’s good buddy has a 308 with suppressor and sights it in at my place. It’s still very loud, and so is he.

Exactly! They won't magically make it where you can shoot your neighbor's cow and him not hear it. Stupid &#@%ing law.

This thread took off! I am definitely going to get a Tikka, appreciate everyone backing that up. Luckily already have a 30cal suppressor so plan to use that also.

Might not be right away, and I will use the loaner 30-30 until I do.

The CTR, right? It's threaded.

Yessir, that's what I've got my eyes on. Need to decide on a scope and I will probably leave it alone other than that and paint. I've really liked my Vortex Gen2 E 1-6 LPVO so I may try one of their scopes for this gun also.

For mostly hunting?

Budget for scope?

This will really only be for hunting, maybe I will get more into some LR shooting but don't have much time for it. I figure I will try to keep it under $800 for the scope.

Smoking good deal right here.

I have one on an LR-308.

It's killed hogs from 5 yards to 500 yards, and hit steel out to 1000 yards.
