Yep. Hunted axis on Lanai when I was stationed at Pearl Harbor with the USN. Also hunted goats and hogs on Oahu and Mouflon on Maui. Hawaii has pretty good hunting if you can get on the properties which are mostly private land for the better areas. I did my hunting on public land with drawn permits for Mouflon (which I did not fill) and for axis. Goats and hogs on Oahu were pretty much everywhere on Oahu on the Pali Range and around the pineapple fields.

From what I hear, there is an over abundance of game due to strict gun laws and limited access. However, success is easily had if you can find the place and the permission. This is all hearsay from unverified sources, but I guess I am trying to encourage you to keep looking and good luck to you!

Axis on Maui are stupid and have very little fear of humans. They’re generally considered a nuisance, too, so getting landowner permission to hunt upcountry isn’t terribly difficult assuming you know some locals.

For something more challenging I would focus on a different island.
