I’m wanting to cut a trench in the ground (rock) to bury an electric line and also bury a septic pipe. Anyone have any suggestions on best way to cut the trench (this will be a do it yourself project)

My place has some dirt. Short runs were done with a grubbing hoe, steel bar and pick. Longer runs with a old plow pulled by the ranch truck.(2 people needed). Power line came above ground where rocks were unable to be broken. Cover with rocks, etc.

Tractor with a ripper? Jack hammer with proper bit? Ask the locals.
Put the power lines in no traffic area, in conduit, on top the ground and cover with native material.

You talking to rocks in the soil, bedrock, what?

Rent a skid steer with rock saw attachment or just hire a local contractor with a big rock saw. Was involved on a project out of Menard where this was done by a local contractor to install septic and fieldlines.

Agree on rock saw ... I rented a rock saw that was similar to a trencher to put some lines underground west of Georgetown (solid limestone) and I cut about 12-14" deep ... just takes some time depending on the hardness of the rock.

I ran this trench in Mills county with the 36" trencher from HomeDepot. I averaged about 10" of depth due to the number of rocks, which were mainly between baseball and softball size. A bigger trencher would have gotten more. However, if you're talking bedrock, it's going to have to be a rocksaw. I'd pay the man to cut the trench.

Oh boy, as someone who has about six to eight inches of dirt and then solid bedrock, good luck. When we ran an electrical line to a second house we built on our property, we paid to rent a trencher and it was not fun. Probably only had to go about 30 feet in total.

When we had a new septic system installed, we had to bring in a full sized excavator. Took four dump trucks to hail off all the rock.

Find out from a concrete company who trenches their beams for a slab

Really no way short of a rock saw to do it. A regular trencher like you rent from Home Depot will not work.
