We all have lots of gloves- Sitka, wool, etc- most are bulky or just leak in dunked in water.

Still looking for decoy glove performance without the bulk and 100% waterproof for shooting.

Thoughts?

I know everyone is sitka this and sitka that, let me see how much money I can spend.... But I think I wear the best waterfowl gear, and shoot the best shells, and it don't ever cost me a penny. I use my cabela points, never spend a penny, I got more points I know what to do with... Been doing that over 15 years now... Just get their gortex gloves, they are great. They got light ones and heavy one, I like to have both. I have been buying the Drake gore-tex brand last several years as my light gloves, I got 2 of those. And "Cabela's Extreme II GORE-TEX Shooting Gloves" as my heavy ones.. All using my cabela points...

The sitka gunner gloves are good field hunting gloves, but not what you're looking for.
And honestly, besides that glove, gloves from sitka suck.
When I was looking for waterproof gloves, I looked at skiing gloves, but never ended up getting any

I’ve been on the same quest for quite some time. Haven’t found any gloves that really are the entire package. Best combo I’ve found so far is merino wool liners underneath drake gortex gloves. It’s still not great, inevitably they will leak or get wet somehow. Best solution I have is to put them on as soon as you get out of the truck as to keep your hands warm from the get go. All bets are off once I’m out of the boat though. Thankfully we live in Tx and only need them a few times each year.

This is kind of like the mud motor vs. outboard debate we talk a lot about. Both have a purpose, but neither does both jobs well.

imo, cheap PVC gloves for when 100% waterproof is needed, then Sitka gunner gloves for shooting

All the gortex drake/cabelas gloves I have bought over the years have been 100% water proof, they do not leak one bit. Now if you put the whole glove under water, it will come in from the top of the glove, and you are screwed there, that is why I keep more that one pair in my boat.

Also from what I have found with these gloves, there is a waterproof liner inside the glove, if that gets damaged, it will leak. And you need a new pair. My experience is this happens when I use these gloves as “work gloves”, building temporary blinds etc…a stick punches through the glove and damages that liner, or I wear a hole through the out side of the glove exposing the waterproof liner, the it gets a hole in it.

But I have never had these gloves start leaking for no reason. Now I have had waders do this, waders can start leaking for no reason, just starts coming in from the seam. But not gloves.

In my opinion the best thing I’ve found to do is to use decoy gloves while setting up and taking down but during the hunt just use your chest pockets on coat or waders.

Not a fan of a glove on my shooting/calling hand. Found just sticking it in my coat pocket keeps it plenty warm. I throw in a hand warmer on cold days.

Pretty much agree w that- talking about those 8 degree days w 30MPH NW Gusts spitting rain. I wear fingerless wool and like them better than my Sitkas et. Took Guy’s advise and ordered some more Gortex gloves as well. Never have enough.

I wear my gloves the whole hunt, they rarely come off. I can call and do everything with my gloves on , I can even take piss with my gloves on, it probably helps that I have a really big pecker, but still…

There are none. Just bring multiple pairs out.

FWIW my buddy swears by his kuiu gor-Tex gloves. If you’re asking about waterproof gloves to pick up dekes. I use a pair of chemical resistant pvc gloves I get from work that go to my elbows. They work great. I personally can’t get comfortable shooting gloves no matter the temps.

If it’s cold I wear neoprene while putting out and picking up decoys. Manual dexterity is limited but they keep my hands warm. For hunting in the cold I wear soft leather gloves that slip on and off easily or neoprene with the fingers cut off. Short reed goose calls do not work with gloves.
I carry a backup pair to hunt in. Taking them on and off to call geese, I manage to misplace a glove too damn often. Duck calls are not a problem with gloves.

One thing about taking your gloves on and off during the hunt is that your hands will get wet... Everything is wet duck hunting... your dog brings you a duck your hands get wet. Then you put your gloves on, now the inside of your glove is wet, probably many think their glove is leaking because of that, but it is not leaking, it's because you are taking your gloves on and off all the time.

Exactly why I like neoprene with the fingers cut out. When water gets in them they work like a wet suit.
