These trout stockings have become extremely popular throughout the state, with well over 340,000 rainbow trout to be stocked over the next several months. One of the most popular lures is a 1/10 ounce silver Super Duper. And please, let the kids have most of the fun.

They wait at the local ponds like they have read the stocking schedules

I have never found them to be good tasting, they are bland tasting thanks to the what they eat at the fish hatchery.

I used to go out and slay them on super dupers with 4 lbs test lines

Best place and coolest place I have found to fish is behind Possum Kingdom Damn in the tailrace by the old bridge, pretty cool area.

Knew a guy several years ago that worked at one of the TPWD hatcheries. They had permits to shoot commorants.

It's sort of a strange ritual but the kids have a blast catching them.

I used to take city kids to a small community pond. Parks and wildlife would release them eariler than posted and let me take about 30 kids fishing. They had a blast catching them. On the release date there was usually over 100 people fishing the small pond so most of the fish were caught within the first 2 or 3 days.

Yeah, you should see the Denton park 'south lakes' pond the day or two after a stocking. There must be 50-60 people around the edge of that little pond fishing for the 300 trout that were dumped in there. I'm always amazed that any trout are left after a week.

I used to go around and fish ponds in Irving and Euless and Bedford when they released them. Sometimes they wont eat the first day, some times they eat heavily.

300 trout released isn't worth the gas.

Frisco is getting 5500 on 2/11. I can usually catch around 40 when they are biting on lures

My friends son caught the lake record Rainbow Trout on Lake Georgetown probably 15 years ago. Nobody could or can explain how it got there??

Probably came from one of the stocking, We used to catch the rainbows behind the damn at PK at the bridge and walk them up behind the damn and free line them for stripers back in the 80's.

I have heard of few being caught at Lake Texoma as well.
