I went on my annual "Veterans Day" weekend hunt with my best friend of 24 years. We have been hunting together for 22 years and a lot of memories. Started Thursday night when we pulled camera cards and realized quickly that our shooters were gone. Big 8 we wanted to go first hasn't been seen since opening weekend and the 11 had been gone 5 days. Nothing but young Bucks and Zero Doe. They left on the 8th and have not been back. Sat Friday morning and watched quail, sat Friday evening and watched quail + a small 4 point. Saturday morning as the sun was rising but visibility was rough with the overcast and weather moving in, I could see 3 Deer at the feeder but could not make out anything past that. 6:55 feeder went off and it was 7:10 before we could see 3 Bucks. 7:20ish we could make out a nice shooter but he looked new to the crowd (visibility still not the best). He walked off twice and the last time he was seen was at roughly 175 yards heading for the creek. When he stopped and looked back at his buddies, we agreed that if I didn't take him, he was gone. He gave me a shot and I took it. He did the double lung fall and 10 minutes later the Yotes started going crazy. We got over their quick with the littles and to our surprise, it was the 11 we wanted. Kiddos had a blast on the trip and we wrote another page in our memory book. Last year my buddy shot his biggest Buck and this year I got mine. We are young (late 30's) but we agreed it's time to focus on the littles and raising them to understand why we manage the way we do and the importance of every step we take to hunt.

Thanks to all. I am happy with having meat for the table and my little girl begging for him to be on her bedroom wall. This was her first outing and she fell in love.
