Sweet. I got one cheap at an estate sale I use to cast ingots of lead when smelting scrap. We have one of my Grandmother's too. It was preserved for cooking.
Pass the gravy.

Soak in vinegar? My kind of family heirloom 50/50 vinegar-water bath for 45 minutes rinsed and scrubbed then another 45 minute bath rinsed and scrubbed again pat dry then 30 minutes in a 375° oven seasoned with lard, buffed all the excess lard off then the oven for a hour. I seasoned it three times.

I have that exact pan that I got from my mom. Use it all the time.
Silver spurs and gold tequila keep me hanging on. Pretty girls and old cantinas give me shelter from the storm.

You can also use lye to get rid of the carbon build up

Awesome job, Payne. I have that exact pan that I got from my mom. Use it all the time. Same here, got it from my grandfather, along with a bunch of other skillets and a roasting pot.

Lots of ways to get a rusty cast iron pan clean. I just want to see the pic of the fresh, hot cornbread with butter melting on top

Best cornbread I’ve ever had came from a pan like that. Must be the crust to cornbread ratio.

My grandmother made corn pone in cast iron pans, just like that. She was a firm believer in bacon grease for cooking!
