Need a new pair of progressives. My Eye place wants like $400. Looking online, they are MUCH cheaper. Do these glasses suk or sturdy? Where do you progressive wearers buy?

I have a simple prescription, but I've gotten almost all of mine from Zenni Optical. They are cheap and I can't tell any difference between them and the optimistic. I buy. New pair every year or two when the old.ones get scratched up.

My doc wanted $700 for a set of progressives 7-8 years ago. I bought from Zenni for about $120 with all the bells and whistles (best lenses, coatings, titanium frame). I typically buy a new pair every 12-18 months, following my newest prescription. My prescription doesn't change much so I use my old pair for backups/yard work and such. I'm on pair number 7 or 8 at this point and from what I can tell the only difference is the amount of money I've saved. I definitely recommend them. They usually have big black Friday sales as well as periodic sales throughout the year.

There are apps you can download to see what glasses look like on you before you buy up

Bought a set of progressive from Zenni. They were OK. Had the lenses updated by a local optician. Better.

I have prescribed glasses for over 20 years.

Progressive lenses need to set at a particular height in your glasses in order for them to work the best. When you order online there is no way to measure the correct height for the no line bifocal if you don't have the frame on your face.

Prescriptions that don't need a bifocal work pretty well when ordered online, progressive bifocals are different story. They may work ok or they may not, its a crap shoot.

I have been seeing a TV ad lately for $79 glasses and exam. I am wondering how they can make any money unless it is bait and switch. I got last pair at my optometrist office. Not cheap but they have lasted 3 years. I did not need new ones but using clip on sunglasses messed up the coating on previous pair. I have learned to only use lens clothes or clean microfiber towels and never use your shirt or anything else. The ones I have now have magnetic sunglasses not clip ons.

I guess we've won the crap shoot. The little lady and I both wear progressive bifocals. I just looked it up, and my first order from Zenni was in 2011. We haven't had a single problem. We always order spares to have. My last order for two pairs (one for each of us) was $186, last month.

It's funny because the only problem I've had with eyeglasses was through my local optometrist before starting with Zenni. He ordered progressive lenses three times for me and each had the start of the progressive portion too high for where I looked when driving. The wife's only problem was with a pair of prescription sunglasses she bought from Eyemart Express because she like the styling. Those kept having the lenses fall out until she finally gave up.

The problem for some people with Zenni is that they don't hold your hand, and obviously you have to make your own adjustments for fit. BUT, at under $100/pair over the last twelve years, even if I did have a bad order I would be way ahead.

I go to a real optometrist to get a full test. It’s expensive but that’s ok. However, I take the prescription to Walmart and get the glasses a lot cheaper.

I go to a legit optometrist for my exam. I'm happy to pay for their expertise just like any other doctor. I see no reason to give them $400 for $10 worth of Chinese plastic.

I get my prescription from my ophthalmologist. I wear progressive bifocals. I order from Zenni & had nothing but good luck with them. Its nice that the prices are so low that I can get an extra pair of prescription sunglasses just to leave in the car.

Ordered 2 pairs from Zenni, one for close focus for working in the shop nd the other normal use pair.

My glasses have a prism and on the normal pair it was over 1 point off on both lenses, (confirmed by my optometrist) at 1st Zenni tried to deny me, had to have them escalate it higher and after a week they gave me full refund for that pair. Glasses were solid and as good as what my eye doc wanted for twice the cost.

Those who bought from Zenni, did you measure your own P.D. as they suggest with a credit card on your forehead?

Word of caution on progressives - if you have any astigmatism and you don’t get the pupil distance absolutely right you won’t like your online glasses.

PD will (or should) be on the prescription from your eye doctor.

I measured my PD in the mirror with a transparent 6-inch ruler. Got pretty close, I think.

Well, I tossed the coin, ordered from ZENNI because they were, well, CHEAP. I'll probably get what I paid for but I can't justify $400+, even from Walmart!!!.

My Eye Doc said they would adjust them to my fat face and crooked nose when they come in.

I'll report back............
