tlk, I didn’t say I disliked Mueller’s. Maybe I was expecting it to be ‘the best’ because of all the reviews, and maybe I ordered the wrong things. We bought a lot of stuff, to the tune of about $250, so we had a wide sampling. It just didn’t impress me like 407 did a couple of years ago. The 407 BBQ absolutely partied in my mouth.
And, as you said, BBQ is certainly subjective. Love the ribs at 407.

And, as you said, BBQ is certainly subjective. I feel the same way. I stopped and had lunch there a couple of months ago. It was good, but didn't live up to the hype, in my opinion. I've had better. 407, Black's in Lockhart, Pecan Lodge have been better. Maybe it was the day I was there. I've found BBQ can vary with each visit. Humidity, the specific brisket, a lot of varibles can affect the outcome.

The thing about 407 is that it is consistent. I have eaten there many times, and the product is always good, I cant say that about other places.

Hey lesson learned. Have not been through Junction in years. Louie Muellers in Taylor is still the best IMO The absolute worst Q I have ever eaten is at Muellers in Taylor.

Let’s just all agree that BBQ in general is mediocre food.
Then we can stop arguing.
It’s all over priced, none of it is prime cuts and its generally eaten in scuzzy buildings and locales.
For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

Muellers was always good for me. Besides, need to cut Taylor some slack, Muellers is about all they got left. Once tlk quit terrorizing the sports fields in 71 the Mighty Ducks have gone downhill.

So I ate there once in Llano years ago and it was pretty good.
Wife and I go to Big Bend this past week and stop in Junction to try Coopers again. Ordered brisket - some of the worst BarBQ I have ever put into my mouth. Was totally overdone and dry - literally could not eat it because it was so tough and chewy - never again 2 completely different Beasts. The Junction one is a pissss poor excuse of a so called BBQ joint. The Llano one is good. The best? na but good. Lum's is really good, imo

Anyone eaten at Isaack's in Junction recently? They recently repainted, but left the gaping hole in the south end attic wall. My wife and son were the last to go in, about 4 years ago. They turned around at the brown lettuce salad bar and left.

For those that pass thru Llano, I suggest trying the Cabrito. It’s excellent

Coopers in Mason, TX was the original location opened in 1953. Tommy Cooper (my great uncle) opened the Llano location in the early 60s. As a guy who grew up eating that bbq, it isn't anything like it once was. Last time I ate at the Llano location was the last time I'll eat there.
