Alright THF, anyone who’s been to Lockhart Texas knows they are the known as the Texas capital of BBQ.

https://www.lockhartchamber.com/visit-lockhart/bbq-capital-of-texas/

I have eaten at Blacks and Chisholm but always find myself waiting till I get to Luling for Central Market BBQ in the most recent years. Last year Central market was just ok. Give it another go or stop in Lockhart? Thinking about Kreuz, never been there.

Who’s got the best in your opinion. I like post oak bbq, dont care for hickory.

Kreuz has been my favorite Lockhart stop forever but Luling has always been special for us too. We ate at Luling recently and it was as good as ever.

Blacks isn't what it used to be. I go to Smitty's and Kruez when I travel through.

Look out for the new place out there Barbs BBQ. It’s all woman owned and it gets rave reviews if you believe Texas monthly magazine. There are some rumors about one of the cooks but I’ll let you make up your own mind on that.

I think there was some discussion on here about that place.

Went to Kruez one time about 10 years ago, was not impressed at all.

Lockhart is just nostalgic these days and far from the BBQ Mecca it once was. I love Smitty's for the building and Kreuz because of Pitmaster Roy Perez and Blacks for the history. Out of those 3 I'm picking Kreuz, but if I'm going strictly for great bbq I'm going to Terry Blacks or Barbs.

I am very familiar with Lockhart BBQ. If given a choice, I'd get City Market in Luling every time over Lockhart.

Blacks is usually very good - seems to be a hit for most folks as you can get everything there...all types of sides and desserts (cobbler rocks). Great options and great meat

Smittys was excellent the other week. No sauces, no forks there. Ice cream was also a hit.

Kreuz still exists and it's been a while since I've been there. I would go there, and it would be ok. But, it was never Amazing. Some folks love it, so kinda gotta test it out yourself). Felt like decent BBQ, but not an epiphany BBQ moment (spoke with Chet Garner about this - ours is both from City Market in Luling, TX)

Where the locals eat....Chisholm Trail BBQ. I probably shouldn't spill the beans, but this place has delivered, big time! Is it one of the big 3-4 in the area? No. Might not have the tourist drawl to it, but I've had many a meal there and been very happy. Great meats, great sides.

personal order for the region:
City Market
Blacks/Smittys (tied for second)
Chisholm
Kreuz

Haven't had Terrys or Barbs yet
